As if winning one gold medal once wasn’t tough enough, Team Scotland’s Melanie Woods was forced to do it twice after it was ruled that the Women’s 1500m T54 final at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games would be rerun owing to a crash that heavily impacted the original race.

Woods stormed to victory on Wednesday at Scotstoun Stadium in front of a raucous home crowd, setting a new Commonwealth Games record in the process.
But the race was marred by a major collision that impacted all but two athletes, prompting a series of protests.
Officials then decided the final would be rerun on Friday, meaning Woods had to return and do it all over again.
However, rather than falter with the extra weight of pressure, the Scot once again excelled, capturing gold and setting an even faster Commonwealth Games record.
"She did it on Wednesday evening and now she takes gold again on Friday morning," came the call from Martin Gillingham in the TNT Sports commentary booth. "That is more than a second faster than her original victory.
"And bear in mind Woods had no involvement at all in that accident on Wednesday, and some would say justice has been served."
Reacting to her gold, Woods joked: "If they call me back for another one, it’s someone else’s turn. They can take it."
But while it was joy and joy again for Woods, the same could not be said for England’s Ellis Kottas.
She crossed the line third in the original race, which then became second and a silver medal following the disqualification of Canada’s Nandini Sharma, but she was cruelly denied a spot on the podium the second time around.
Kottas finished fourth, behind Woods, Mauritia’s Noemi Alphonse and Australia’s Eliza Ault-Connell.
The highs and lows of elite-level sport, once again laid bare.
