Team GB's athletics hopes have been dealt a blow after confirmation that 200m hopeful Zharnel Hughes has pulled out of the event with a hamstring injury. The sprinter, who missed out on the 100m final after failing to qualify from the semis, is also a doubt for the 4x100m relay. Team GB sprinter Zharnel Hughes has withdrawn from the Paris 2024 Olympics 200m event with a hamstring injury.
The issue has prevented Hughes from being able to compete in the 200m heats, which begin on Monday evening at the Stade de France.
"Zharnel Hughes has withdrawn from the 200m heats tonight due to hamstring tightness which requires monitoring for the next 48 hours,” said a British Athletics statement.
“No decision taken yet on his relay involvement."
Hughes failed to qualify for the 100m final on Sunday after finishing sixth in his semi-final with a time of 10.01.
The 29-year-old reached the 100m final in Tokyo, becoming the first British man to do so since Dwain Chambers and Darren Campbell at Sydney 2000, but was disqualified for a false start.

Hughes is a four-time European champion, his successes spread across 100m, 200m and 4x100m disciplines, and a three-time World Championships medallist.
He won world 100m bronze in 2023, but had an injury-hit build-up to Paris 2024 this summer.

The 4x100m heats start on Thursday, August 8, with the final taking place the following day.
Hughes was part of the GB team that won silver in the event three years ago in Tokyo, before they were later stripped of their medal after CJ Ujah was found guilty of a doping violation.
He is the British record holder in both the 100m (9.83s) and 200m (19.73s).
