LeBron James overtakes Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to make NBA history with most minutes ever played in Los Angeles Lakers win

Los Angeles Lakers great LeBron James broke the record for the most minutes played in NBA history on Thursday night. James, 39, surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar when he completed a remarkable 57,447th minutes on court during the game against the Sacramento Kings, which the Lakers won 113-100. His achievement came in the same year in which he eclipsed Abdul-Jabbar's scoring record in the NBA.

LeBron James broke the record for the most minutes played in NBA history during Thursday's victory over the Sacramento Kings, and said the feat was down to his "commitment to the craft".
The 39-year-old again surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar when he completed his 57,447th minute on court as the Lakers claimed a 113-100 victory.
"It's just a commitment to the craft and to the passion and love I have for the game," James said.
"[My teammates] told me I'm old as hell. It's a pretty cool honour. Obviously, anytime I'm linking with some of the greatest that ever played this game.
"I've been available to my team-mates, I've been able to do this at a high level for two decades, and I continue to put myself in the record books in this game of basketball that I love so much, and the best league in the world. It's pretty cool, and it's very humbling."
James has played in the NBA since the Cleveland Cavaliers selected him with the first overall pick of the 2003 Draft. He has been with the Lakers since 2018.
When asked whether the scoring or appearance record meant most to him, James said he could not pick between the two.

"I mean, they both are special," James said. "I mean, obviously, you set your mark and try to make things happen in the regular season to prepare for the postseason. It's all part of the process.

"I've been able to have some deep play-off runs and play some meaningful basketball games in my career into the postseason, so they both have a special meaning. You can't have one."
The feat is the latest accolade of James' glittering career, which has also seen him claim four NBA MVP awards - alongside three Olympic gold medals, most recently helping USA to glory in Paris earlier this year.
