Great Britain squeezed through to the semi-finals of the men’s curling at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics after Italy slipped up on the final day of round-robin action.
There was an anxious wait for the Brits, who won their final match against the United States on Wednesday night but still required Italy or Norway to lose their climactic game the following morning to progress.
Table-toppers Switzerland continued their strong form with a 9-5 victory to send Team GB through, and hosts Italy tumbling out.
Hopes were high for Team GB as they won four of their opening five matches in the round-robin stage, looking for similar success that brought them a silver medal in Beijing four years ago.
But a string of three successive defeats threw their hopes into doubt, despite winning their finale against Team USA in resounding style.
Bruce Mouat, Grant Hardie, Hammy McMillan Jr and Bobby Lammie were forced to watch on as their fate lay in the hands of Thursday's morning matches, having completed their round-robin campaign on Wednesday.
But they clinched the last semi-final berth by the finest of margins, setting up a last-four meeting with the unbeaten Switzerland.

Mouat - particularly - will be all too aware that the slate is wiped clean following the conclusion of the round-robin stage.
He and Jennifer Dodds topped the 10-team standings in the mixed doubles event, but went on to suffer defeat in the semi-finals to Sweden and the bronze medal match to Italy.
The semi-finals take place later on Thursday, with play getting underway at 18:00 GMT - live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
Elsewhere, Team GB's women are also relying on results elsewhere as they look to make the semi-finals, in defence of their gold medal four years ago.
They must defeat Italy in their final round-robin match at 13:00, while also relying on the already-qualified Switzerland to defeat Team USA.
