Winter Olympics 2026: Switzerland curler slips on the ice as Bruce Mouat praised for honesty at Milano Cortina - 'Whoopsie-daisy!'

There was a rare and humorous moment during the men's curling semi-finals at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games as one of Switzerland's curlers slipped over on the ice, tripping over a brush in the process, and crashed into some loose stones. There was no harm done in the end, as Team GB's Bruce Mouat was given praise for his understanding of the situation.

No matter how much time they spend on the ice, even the best curlers sometimes struggle to stay on their feet, as demonstrated by Switzerland's Yannick Schwaller.
During Thursday's semi-final clash against Great Britain at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games, the Swiss took a tumble in a humorous moment.
The Swiss skip was taken out by Grant Hardie as the pair frantically tried to sweep different stones out of the house, and he tripped over the Brit's brush.
As it happened, Schwaller fell on top of a British stone - which was in the house - and knocked it away as he made contact with it, which could have led to a controversial situation.
"Whoopsie daisy!" TNT Sports commentator Richard Vaughan said as Schwaller fell down.
"Oh dear. That's not so good," fellow commentator David Smith added. "I think it was going out, but what do you do there?"

"They normally sort it out in a friendly fashion," Vaughan continued. "Not everything has been friendly this week, of course."
Mouat was commended for his honesty during the incident, as the Team GB skip seemed to concede that the stone was heading out of play and therefore, effectively a dead rock.
"Well done, Bruce Mouat," Smith said. "Bruce, very honestly, was saying, 'I think the stone was going out'. That's what you want to see."
Before the commentary duo began laughing at the replays once the situation was settled, Vaughan added: "Well done, I'm pretty sure it was [going out], wasn't it?
"You don't see that very often. He just caught himself on the brush of Grant Hardie.
"Have they all agreed? I don't know, maybe the umpires are having a little word about it."

During the incident, Vaughan touched on the unfriendly controversy, which he claimed had "kicked off quite a saga" in the curling world during the Milano Cortina Games.
Canada's Marc Kennedy was accused of cheating by Sweden during their round-robin clash earlier in the Games.
Kennedy has continued to deny the allegations, despite viral videos seeming to show the player 'double-touching' - an illegal move in which a player contacts the stone after it has been released down the ice.
Extra officials were consequently introduced at the hog line, albeit briefly, before they were removed again.
Team GB were also penalised for an infraction, before Kennedy questioned the integrity of the sport, claiming that "the spirit of curling is dead".

Canada finished in second place at the round-robin stage after winning seven of their nine matches to earn a semi-final clash with third-placed Norway.
The contest went all the way to the wire, with GB producing a brilliant final end to secure an 8-5 win to book their place in the final.
Canada stand in the way of GB and a gold medal, as they secured a 5-4 win over Norway in a match which went to an extra end.
