Giro d'Italia: 'Racing at the front, arms in the air' - Tom Pidcock reveals goals for first Grand Tour of 2025, Primoz Roglic shuns 'favourite' talk

Tom Pidcock will lead Q36.5 Pro Cycling on his Giro d'Italia debut when the first Grand Tour of the season gets underway on Friday. Despite feeling that his performances in the Ardennes Classics were "not as good" as they could have been, the 25-year-old Brit maintained a positive attitude ahead of the Giro, and hopes to be "racing from the front" throughout the 21-stage thriller.

Giro d'Italia debutant Tom Pidcock is brimming with "confidence" ahead of the season's opening Grand Tour.
Q36.5 Pro Cycling's wild card for the three-week-long road race put Pidcock in line for his maiden appearance at the 21-stage thriller.
Pidcock has won four times so far this season, while placing in the top 10 at each of the three Ardennes Classics.
The two-time Olympic gold medallist, though, said he felt there was room for improvement in his performance in the April races, as he stated his aims to make a mark on the Giro - in which every stage will be shown live on TNT Sports and discovery+.
"I’m carrying the momentum. The Ardennes was not really as good as I could have been, or as I’d have liked," Pidcock said.
"I certainly still feel a lot of confidence, motivation and want to carry that into the Giro.
"I think I want to go out and race every day. I think it’s a really good place to be able to do that.
"We'll go away from here getting my hands in the air, racing at the front and winning."
On the first stage and his chances of grabbing a possible pink jersey, the Brit added: "Not the first stage.
"I don’t see it being hard enough to get rid of some faster guys, but you never know, we’ll see."
The Giro will crown a different champion this year, as Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) announced ahead of the 2025 campaign that he would not defend his title. Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) and Remco Evenepoel (Soudal Quick-Step) will also be absent.

Roglic shuns 'favourite' talk
Pogacar's compatriot Primoz Roglic (Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe), meanwhile, will be competing at this year's Giro, and the 2023 champion is widely considered one of the favourites to regain his crown.
Roglic, 35, will return for the first time since March, when he won two stages en route to victory in the Volta a Catalunya.
The Slovenian was dismissive of suggestions he is favourite to become this year's GC winner.
"When I see the start list, it doesn’t say I have some sort of advantage or whatever," Roglic said.
"It’s nice people think like that, but we all start from zero.
"There are 21 days we have to prove who is the fastest one again. They [his rivals] all have quality, they’re all good. They will all be super ready now with the start of the Giro."

Roglic continued to bat away any conversation around his early-season form - and indeed what is to come in the 2025 season with the Tour de France looming - maintaining full focus on the intense three weeks ahead of him.
"I try to be in the moment," Roglic said.
"Now I’m in the Giro, I don’t want to discuss the next races, I’m here to do my best."
