Demi Vollering cleared to race on at Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift as doctors rule out concussion after heavy crash

The Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift received a welcome boost on Tuesday as FDJ-Suez confirmed Demi Vollering would ride on after her crash on Stage 3. The Dutchwoman was one of a number of riders to go down on a tricky right turn with 3.7km to go. It sparked fears she might be forced to abandon the race due to concussion, but she was cleared by doctors to continue her fight for the yellow jersey.

Demi Vollering will race on at the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift after doctors ruled out a concussion following her heavy crash on Monday.
Vollering (FDJ-Suez) went down with 3.7km to go on Stage 3 as the road narrowed on a tricky right turn, with riders preparing for the bunch sprint that was to come.
The 2023 champion was one of those who went down hard and had to be helped to the line by her team-mates Amber Kraak and Juliette Labous.
Following tests on Tuesday morning, Vollering has been cleared to race on as she pursues a second yellow jersey.
"Further medical examinations and a second concussion protocol Demi Vollering underwent this morning with the team doctor, ruled out the risk of concussion," read a team statement.

"With the support of FDJ-Suez team, Demi Vollering is determined to take part in today’s stage. The team remains vigilant and will further follow her situation during the efforts (warming up and race)."
Shortly after Monday's stage, FDJ-Suez general manager Stephen Delcourt said 28-year-old Vollering was upbeat and was eager to carry on racing if declared fit.
"You know, when you crash at the speed, it's never easy," Delcourt told reporters outside the FDJ-Suez team bus. "She's completely shocked. She has a pain at the knees, a pain at the glutes and pain at the back.
"We need to wait, because we never know if it's just the shock because she crashed or she needs time. She will be examined with the team doctor.
"She really insisted on the roller that she is really positive. She wants to continue, but we just need time to go to the hotel, examine, go to the hospital and after one night, we can come back to you to tell you, but it's cycling."

The likes of Elisa Balsamo (Lidl-Trek) and Chloe Dygert (Canyon-SRAM zondacrypto) also went down in the incident, while Kim Le Court (AG Insurance-Soudal) in the yellow jersey was unable to compete for the stage win after being stuck behind the fallen riders.
Fortunately for those affected, though, the crash occurred within 5km of the finish, meaning no time has been lost for those battling for top honours in the GC.
That leaves Vollering 21 seconds down on new leader Marianne Vos (Visma-Lease a Bike), and asked about her GC hopes after the crash, Delcourt added: "I don't know for the moment, it's really too early. We need really a good night for her and decide tomorrow. Stage after stage, we decide.
"We work a lot for the Tour de France, and Demi works a lot herself for that. And we just want to respect the woman before the rider, and now she just needs time, and we want to continue to be positive."
