Attention switched from yellow to green on Tuesday as Jasper Philipsen put himself back in the picture in the points classification. His duel with Biniam Girmay will dominate the first half of Wednesday's stage, before Tadej Pogacar locks horns again with Jonas Vingegaard and Remco Evenepoel in three late categorised climbs in the mountains. The green jersey competition is suddenly alive again after Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin–Deceuninck) roared to victory on Tuesday and Biniam Girmay (Intermarche-Wanty) crashed in the finale.
Just 32 points separate leader Girmay from Philipsen in a competition that looked wrapped up just 24 hours ago, but could now be decided in the remaining intermediate sprints.
The first of those arrives on Wednesday's Stage 17, about halfway through the run from Saint-Paul-Trois-Chateaux to Superdevoluy, with Girmay's first battle making the start line after hitting the ground hard.
After the sprint squabble, the general classification hopefuls should come to the fore, with three categorised climbs set to spice up the final 35 kilometres as the peloton climb above 1500m, while the breakaway will also have a big chance of landing a rare win.
Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) holds a 3'09" lead over Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike) with five stages remaining.

Watch Stage 17 of the 2024 Tour de France on Wednesday, July 17 from 11:00 UK time on Eurosport 1, while you can watch ad-free on discovery+.
The UK coverage will again be bookended by The Breakaway, presented by Orla Chennaoui, who will be joined by 12-time stage winner Robbie McEwen and former Olympic champion Dani Rowe.
Rob Hatch and Carlton Kirby will share hosting duties in the Eurosport commentary box, with four-time green jersey Sean Kelly, McEwen and Rowe for company.
Adam Blythe (Stages 16-21) will bring you closer to the action from the back of the motorbike.
