The Tour de France is reaching its critical phase with the Alps set to dictate whether Jonas Vingegaard can somehow wrestle the yellow jersey back from Tadej Pogacar. The signs weren't positive on Stage 17 as the Dane lost more time, but can he hit back at altitude? What does the finale to the Tour de France have in store?
Three consecutive stages in the Alps look likely to decide the destination of the yellow jersey, with Tadej Pogacar in pole position to seal what would be a third Tour title.
The Slovenian snuck two more seconds from Jonas Vingegaard on Stage 17, and seems in an aggressive mood in the final week as he bids to keep the defending champion at arms length.
Thursday's Stage 18 looks the least punishing of the remaining stages, but nonetheless presents enough opportunities to launch attacks.

HOW CAN I WATCH STAGE 18 OF THE TOUR DE FRANCE?
Watch Stage 18 of the 2024 Tour de France on Thursday, July 18 from 11:00 UK time on Eurosport 1, while you can watch ad-free on discovery+.
The UK coverage will again be bookended by The Breakaway, presented by Orla Chennaoui, who will be joined by 12-time stage winner Robbie McEwen and former Olympic champion Dani Rowe.
Rob Hatch and Carlton Kirby will share hosting duties in the Eurosport commentary box, with four-time green jersey Sean Kelly, McEwen and Rowe for company.
Adam Blythe (Stages 16-21) will bring you closer to the action from the back of the motorbike.
