Woe for Ineos Grenadiers as Carlos Rodriguez withdraws from Tour de France with broken pelvis following Stage 17 crash

The highest-ranked rider for Ineos Grenaders is out of the Tour de France after Carlos Rodriguez suffered a fractured pelvis during Stage 17. He crashed towards the end of the day, leading to his withdrawal from the race. Rodriguez was tenth in the General Classification and had maintained a top-10 spot through four successive stages. Tadej Pogacar remains in yellow ahead of a brutal Queen Stage.

Ineos Grenadiers' Carlos Rodriguez has withdrawn from the Tour de France after suffering a fractured pelvis.
He sustained the injury after a crash during the final moments of Stage 17.
The Spaniard was the team’s highest-ranked rider, sitting tenth in the general classification, over 20 minutes down on leader Tadej Pogacar (UAE Emirates-XRG).
Rodriguez suffered the injury during a crash in the final moments of Stage 17, which impacted much of the field.
Only the front ten riders were completely unaffected as a blockade of bikes and competitors formed with a kilometre to go.
Confirming his withdrawal, Ineos said: "Carlos RodrĂguez will regrettably not take the start of stage 18 today following his crash in the final moments of yesterday’s stage.

"Hospital scans have confirmed a fracture of the pelvis. Carlos is in good spirits and remains under the close supervision of our medical team.Â
"He will now return home to focus on recovery and the rehabilitation process," a statement said.
Rodriguez’s fall - and subsequent injury - will also cost him the chance to compete at the Vuelta and World Championships.
The crash near the finish line was the second of the day for Rodriguez, who also went down with Julian Alaphilippe (Tudor Pro Cycling) 50km from the finish.

It brings to an end a promising Tour for the Spanish rider, who maintained a top 10 place in the general classification across the four stages he raced before his abandonment.
Green jersey wearer Jonathan Milan (Lidl–Trek) was the winner of Stage 17, while Pogacar has a 4’15" overall lead.
