Tadej Pogacar confirmed for UCI World Championships after overcoming post-Tour de France fatigue

The Slovenian Cycling Federation have confirmed that Tadej Pogacar will take part in the elite men's road race and time trial at the UCI World Championships in Glasgow. Pogacar had been a doubt after suffering with fatigue at the end of a gruelling three-week Tour de France. He missed the post-Tour criteriums but has adequately recovered at home to go for glory in the Scottish city.

After some doubt about his participation, it has been announced that Tadej Pogacar will compete in the UCI Road World Championships in Glasgow.
Pogacar will lead the elite men’s Slovenian time and go for glory in the road race and the time trial as he looks to bounce back after finishing second in the Tour de France.
The Slovenian cut a frustrated and fatigued figure as he battled it out for one of cycling’s biggest prizes over three gruelling weeks in France, eventually losing out to Team Jumbo-Visma's Jonas Vingegaard by more than seven minutes.
The competition took its toll on the 24-year-old, who cited the need to recover as the reason he decided not to take part in any of the post-Tour criteriums and which also put his World Championships appearance in jeopardy.
However, the Slovenian Cycling Federation has now quashed those fears and confirmed their star rider will be in Glasgow to take on some of the biggest names in the sport after recovering sufficiently at home.
Pogacar will be the lone Slovenian to take on the likes of Kristijan Koren, Matevz Govekar, Luka Mezgec, Anze Skok and Paka Primozic as he goes for glory in the elite men’s road race on Sunday, August 6 around the streets of Glasgow.
It will be the first time he has competed in the road race, before he next lines up in the time trial on Friday, August 11 as he looks to improve on his 10th-place finish in 2021 and his sixth-place finish last year.
Pogacar’s compatriots Primoz Roglic and Matej Mohoric, who won an emotional Tour de France stage, have both opted to skip the World Championships.
The 24-year-old is then expected to finish off his season with a series of one-day meets and the Il Lombardia race in Italy on October 7.
