But, he is also there to support son-in-law Nayel Nassar, who will represent Egypt in the equestrian jumping event. American billionaire Bill Gates has been spotted at several events at the 2024 Olympic Games supporting both US athletes and a family member competing in Paris.

Gates was part of the audience watching the legendary clash of tennis titans Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal at Roland-Garros on Monday.

More recently, tech guru was seen supporting Simone Biles and team USA as they claimed gold in the women’s artistic gymnastics on Tuesday.

But the main reason that the 68-year-old has travelled to Paris for the Games, is to support son-in-law Nayel Nassar.

Nassar, 33, married to Gates’ daughter Jennifer, 28, in 2021 and the couple had a daughter together last year and are currently expecting their second child.

The pair began dating in 2017 after meeting through their joint love of horse riding, which they both have competed in since a young age.

Gates viewed Nassar as her mentor in equestrian events after they competed against each other in equestrian events while Gates attended Stanford University.

Which country does Nassar represent and in which event?

Nassar is set to represent Egypt at the Games, as he competes in the equestrian jumping event in Paris.

Despite being born and spending most of his life in the United States, Nassar proudly represents Egypt, the country that both of his parents are from.

Paris will be his second Olympic Games, after he was part of Egypt’s first show jumping team in 60 years in the Tokyo Games.

The equestrian star has also represented his country at the 2014 World Equestrian Games and three FEI Jumping World Cups

Team GB also have a famous Olympic athlete, Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix, daughter of reality television star Fred Sireux, won a bronze medal in the women’s synchronised 10 metre diving on Wednesday.

Speaking after the event, the 19-year-old said: “I'm so happy. I usually have so much to say - but I don't have anything to say today.

"Having my family here and doing it alongside Lois, it's been a crazy two years.

"I have grown so much as a person alongside her - not just as an athlete - I'm so happy.

"If anyone could do it, it would be us."

Her father has been working as a presenter for the BBC during the Olympics and spoke with the broadcaster about his daughter’s success.

“What a competition, it is always a rollercoaster with you two girls, you really took me round the bend and through the middle,” he proudly said.

"I'm just in awe with what they have achieved. I think it is an amazing journey for them.”

In tennis, American Jessica Pegula, daughter of billionaire Terry Pegula, owner of the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres, competed in the women’s singles and doubles events, but was knocked out of the Games on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old was defeated by Ukrainian Elina Svitolina in the singles tournament, and, alongside teammate Coco Gauff, was knocked out in the doubles by Czechia’s Linda Noskova and Karolína Muchova.
