Adobe Women's FA Cup recap - Liverpool beat Everton; Girma gives Chelsea victory over Man Utd; Arsenal, Man City, Brighton and Charlton win
The fifth round of the 2025-26 Adobe Women's FA Cup continued on Sunday with six ties taking place. Holders Chelsea defeated Manchester United in a classic tie which went to extra time. Arsenal and Manchester City were far too good for Bristol City and Sheffield United respectively. Charlton won at Oxford, while Brighton took the spoils at West Ham. Liverpool beat Everton in the Merseyside derby.

The final fifth-round game of this year’s Women’s FA Cup will see London City Lionesses host Tottenham Hotspur on Monday evening.

Everton interim manager Scott Phelan felt both first half goals were disappointing to have conceded in his side’s 2-1 defeat against Liverpool.
He told TNT Sports: "I thought the first half an hour was quite tight, I don’t think there was too much between the teams.
"I seem to remember them having a shot from distance, but not too many other chances. And then, obviously, the two goals before half-time are really disappointing.
"Definitely, without seeing them back, they feel like they were really avoidable.
"Two opportunities to clear the ball on the half-way line. Our contacts weren't big enough. All of a sudden they have broken and there's a header at the back post.
"And then similar, a little bit of direct play in terms of a cross into the box, and we failed to deal with it, despite having big contact, that wasn't big enough, and we didn't clear the danger quick enough, and all of a sudden it's tapped into our net."

FIRST HALF GOALS SEE LIVERPOOL WIN DERBY
Mia Enderby and Beata Olsson scored first half goals as Liverpool booked their quarter-final spot with a 2-1 win against Everton.
Enderby put her body on the line to knock home a Ceri Holland cross on 34 minutes, but was taken off injured after colliding with Everton goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan in the process.
Her replacement Beata Olsson doubled Liverpool’s lead before the break after connecting with Holland’s free-kick.
Liverpool could have secured the win early in the second half, but Jenna Clark saw her header denied by goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan.
However, the Toffees struck with 18 minutes remaining after substitute Aurora Galli saw her effort come back off the post onto goalkeeper Jennifer Falk and in.
Liverpool were not to be denied and finished strongly with Olsson only denied her second goal by a Brosnan save as the hosts progressed.

LIVERPOOL BOSS: ‘OUR IDENTITY GOT US HOME’
Liverpool head coach Gareth Taylor said that his side ‘had to fight’ against their Merseyside rivals Everton to progress.
"I think the FA Cup is a magical competition.
"This tie was obviously an attractive one to everyone. There's usually a favourite and an underdog, this game felt a little bit more level.
"We had to fight. Everton are really organised and they make it difficult. I thought we were a bit flat in the first half, I'll be honest.
"To be 2-0 up at a half-time was a bit of a gift for us. The endeavour and the quality of times, in the second half was much more like us.
"At times in the second half in a tough derby we showed our identity, that really got us home today."

‘IT WASN’T PRETTY,’ SAID LIVERPOOL FORWARD
Liverpool’s Swedish forward Beata Olsson said that she ‘loves’ the FA Cup, but admitted that her side’s 2-1 win over Everton wasn’t the most pleasing on the eye.
She told TNT Sports: "I think we did what we had to do, it wasn't pretty all the time.
"I love these cups. We have the Swedish cup in Sweden and it's the same. You just know that it's a really big competition and everyone has an opportunity to do something.
"I think it's so fun that you have the opportunity to actually win something. It's not going to be a draw here, and we know that we can go all the way."
Talking about her time at Liverpool, Olsson added: "I came in pretty late in the window in the summer, so I had some work to do then. With the injury, I'm getting back to it, which will be nice."

Liverpool win the Merseyside derby and are through to the quarter-finals of this year’s Women’s FA Cup. The Reds had several chances in the second half to kill off the tie and are deserved winners.

OLSSON DENIED BY GOALKEEPER
It was almost all over for Everton. A battling piece of play as Csillag forces the ball into the box and finds team-mate Olsson who is denied by a close-range Brosnan save.
Moments late there is barging between the sides as the players end up in a heap ahead of a corner.
Everton are desperately searching for an equaliser and Kitagawa sees her low effort denied by goalkeeper Falk.
Liverpool make a change as Thomas comes off for Csillag for the last 10 minutes.
Meanwhile, French forward Gago is on for Everton as she replaced Hayashi

OLSSON LASHES OVER FOR REDS
It’s another Holland delivery into the Everton box which causes mayhem. This time it drops for Olsson to rifle over the crossbar. The second goal scorer snatched at that effort.
Substitutes Kramzara and Galli combine, allowing he latter to fire a driven strike at goal. The ball comes back off the post and hits the back of goalkeeper Falk before finding the net. Liverpool lead 2-1 with 73 minutes played.
The Everton forward chests the ball down and then beats her marker before firing down low. The goalkeeper may have got a touch as the ball flashed past the post.
Gabarro and Vignola are then taken off and replaced by Payne and Galli.

Firstly Holland’s free-kick finds the head of Thomas who flicks her effort wide of the target. Moments later Holland herself has a pot-shot at goal which is at the goalkeeper.
Everton need to turn momentum in this game to stand any chance of progressing.
An hour gone in this one and Liverpool lead 2-0.

A scrappy piece of play, from a Liverpool corner, as the ball rebounds around the box. Eventually Clark gets a header on goal which is tipped from under the crossbar.

We are back underway on Merseyside. Everton will be reeling from that second goal and have it all to do in the second half.
Liverpool’s head coach Gareth Taylor also believes his side ‘need to be better’.

Just the five minutes of extra time. There could have been more with the Enderby injury. There will be mixed feelings for Liverpool at the break, but they will be delighted with their performance.
Holland curls a dangerous ball into the box from the left flank. Fernandez tries to head it clear but it only ricochets against Olsson, who then reacts quickest and stabs the ball into the net from a yard or so out.
Everton are furious, they wanted a foul for the ball striking Olsson's hand. It probably did but it would have been a harsh award when she was so close to Fernandez initially.
Olsson forces home to double Liverpool's lead over Everton
A horrible sight as she is strapped to the stretcher with her hands covering her face. Brosnan goes over to give her regards and the crowd all applaud as one. She is being replaced by Olsson.
