Sam Kerr scores twice as Chelsea thrash Crystal Palace while London City Lionesses edge Sunderland - Women's FA Cup fourth-round round-up

Sam Kerr scored twice as holders Chelsea cruised into the fifth round of the Adobe Women's FA Cup with a 5-0 victory over WSL2 side Crystal Palace, while fellow second-tier outfit Sunderland were also eliminated at the fourth-round stage following a narrow defeat to London City Lionesses on Saturday. The draw for the fifth round will take place on Monday, live on the TNT Sports YouTube channel.

Sam Kerr scored twice as holders Chelsea eased into the fifth round of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup with a 5-0 victory over WSL2 side Crystal Palace.

Millie Bright set the tone early for Sonia Bompastor’s team, opening the scoring in the 13th minute by nodding in a corner at the back post.

Chelsea extended their advantage before the half-hour mark, with Kerr rolling the ball under goalkeeper Shae Yanez after being played through by Erin Cuthbert, before Guro Reiten converted confidently from the penalty spot to make it 3-0.

Kerr added her second shortly after the restart, heading home a Reiten cross in the 52nd minute, and Alyssa Thompson completed the scoring with Chelsea's fifth.

Chelsea head coach Bompastor said: "It was important we scored early. It was a good day for us to manage the squad the way we wanted to, and to give opportunities to some of the youngsters.

"It's important we keep the momentum going as winning is part of our DNA. The priority is always to try to win the game, and this is good for confidence.

"Winning the FA Cup would mean a lot. It's a competition which means a lot in England and the history is huge. We have spoken about this as a group. We want to get to the final, but we have games between now and then to focus on. It is just one more step."

Sangare steers London City to victory over Sunderland

Sunderland were the second WSL2 side in action on Saturday and also fell at the fourth-round stage, suffering a narrow defeat to London City Lionesses.

London City controlled much of the contest but found chances hard to come by against a well-organised Sunderland defence that limited space and opportunities in open play.

Eleanor Dale saw an effort deflected over the crossbar by Jana Fernandez, while Izzy Goodwin was denied by a save from Grace Moloney as the first half ended goalless.

With openings proving scarce, the visitors broke the deadlock from a set piece five minutes after the restart. Wassa Sangare met a corner at the near post and headed past Moloney to score the only goal of the game.
