Manchester City send warning to title contenders after winning WSL crown as Alex Greenwood savours ‘best feeling’ - ‘This isn’t the end’

Manchester City manager Andree Jeglertz paid tribute to his players, saying they "met every challenge" after they were crowned Women's Super League champions.

City's first WSL league title for a decade was confirmed when Arsenal drew 1-1 at Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday night.
Jeglertz's team have looked the likeliest winners all season long - they have been at the top since November - and they now can't be caught with just one match remaining, at West Ham United on May 16.
”Helping guide this team to the WSL title is something I will never forget,” City boss Jeglertz told the club's website. ”The girls have met every challenge in front of them head on and have been an absolute joy to coach this season.
"In the good moments and the bad, they’ve always stuck together and found a way to win – something that all great champions do.
”This wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible effort, belief, passion and dedication of my colleagues, the players and the fans.
"They’ve all been a credit to the club as well as themselves and deserve to celebrate this amazing moment.
”But this isn’t the end of the road – we still have plenty to fight for this season and in the coming years. I’m excited by what the future holds for this amazing group of players and this fantastic club.”
Arsenal needed to win to keep the title race alive, but they fell behind to The Seagulls when Fuka Tsunoda struck two minutes before half-time.
Frida Maanum levelled for The Gunners just after the hour mark, but they couldn't find a winning goal.
Arsenal head coach Renee Slegers said: ”Congratulations to Man City, who have now won the league.
"It was disappointing today. Credit to Brighton who are a very tough opponent to play against and they did well, but we have to look at ourselves and we are very disappointed.”

City will now aim for a domestic double. They travel to Chelsea in the semi-finals of the Women's FA Cup on Sunday, a game that will be live on TNT Sports and HBO Max.
That match kicks off at 3:30pm, with the other semi-final between Liverpool and Brighton taking place just before, at 12:15pm.
City have had no UEFA Champions League distractions this season - having finished fourth in the WSL last term - which may well have been a factor in their success.
Their recent defeat in the league at Brighton didn't prove decisive, and City's last-gasp 1-0 win over Liverpool on Sunday put them very close to the finish line.
Now their celebrations can begin in earnest. For the first time since 2016, City have proved to be the best team in the country across a WSL campaign.

Speaking to the club's website on Wednesday, club captain Alex Greenwood said: ”[It feels] absolutely incredible. A moment, we as a team, me personally, us as a club has waited so long for,” she explained.
”An incredible moment, it’s an incredible feeling. I’m so glad we got to spend this moment together as a group. Just an absolutely incredible feeling.
”There’s been moments in the season and a feeling within our four walls where we felt confident. We spoke about being winners, and have been confident to speak like that.
”We’ve had a bit of a shift in mindset to feel comfortable to speak in that language. That’s been a massive difference in our culture.
”We’ve worked really hard on those small details of acting like champions, playing like champions, speaking like champions.
”Sometimes it’s a difficult conversation when you’re not actually champions or been there, it’s a change in body language and thought process in games.
”Now we can say it and it’s real. We are champions. It’s one the best feelings I’ve ever had.”
