Aston Villa host Bayern, Man City to play PSG, Liverpool face Real Madrid in new Champions League phase format draw

The new UEFA Champions League format draw on Thursday saw Liverpool, Manchester City, Arsenal and Aston Villa get some glamour ties. The league phase draw is new for the 2024/25 season, and includes Real Madrid travelling to Anfield, Arsenal facing Inter Milan, Barcelona against Bayern Munich and many more matches, with the action live on TNT Sports and discovery+.

The UEFA Champions League draw phase saw Manchester City v Paris Saint-Germain, Arsenal v Inter Milan, and Liverpool v Real Madrid pulled out of the hat, among other eye-catching fixtures.
The new format sees groups ditched in favour of a single table, with each team playing eight different sides. Four matches will be played away, and four played at home.
The pick of the matches will be shown live on TNT Sports and discovery+ throughout the season.
The top eight will qualify for the knockout round, to be played in the same manner as last year’s draw, with the remaining 16 teams involved in playoffs to reach that round. The format will be used from 2024 to 2027.
The Pot 1 sides were drawn first, with teams from each of the four pots included.
The draw, which saw Gianluigi Buffon and Cristiano Ronaldo pull out the teams, threw up several ties with plenty of intrigue and relevance after years of rivalries and competition.

Manchester City face some tough tests, with their former Champions League final opponents Internazionale the standout fixture.

Internazionale were drawn second from the pot and will face a home game against another Premier League side in Arsenal, as well as welcoming RB Leipzig. They will also take on current Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.
