Jose Mourinho: Fenerbahce manager 'ready to go' to 'any club in England' that 'doesn't play in UEFA competitions'

Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho was left furious after being sent off in Thursday's 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League. After the game, he said he is "ready to go" back to England when his contract is up in two years' time to join "any club [which] doesn't play in UEFA competitions." Mourinho said he won't appeal as he will be banned for "six months" if he does.

Jose Mourinho said he is “ready to go” to “any club in England” that doesn’t play in Europe after being left frustrated by a red card in Fenerbahce’s draw with Manchester United.

The former United, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager was sent off as his team earned a 1-1 draw in Istanbul in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

Speaking to TNT Sports, Mourinho was unhappy with referee Clement Turpin, who brandished the red card for dissent, sarcastically calling him “one of the best referees in the world” for having “one eye on the penalty situation and one eye on the bench and my behaviour.”

In his post-match press conference, Mourinho suggested he is ready to move away from European football when his contract with Fenerbahce expires in 2026.

“I think the best thing I have to do is when I leave Fenerbahce I go to a club that doesn't play UEFA competitions,” Mourinho said.

“If any club in England from the bottom of the table needs a coach in two years, I'm ready to go.

“I don't want to say anything more about it. I want to speak about the game. We played absolutely fantastic against the team, in theory, from a superior level. We played fantastic.”

It was not the first time Mourinho has got into a disciplinary scrape during a European match.

He was handed a four-match ban for abusing referee Anthony Taylor after his AS Roma side lost on penalties to Sevilla in the 2022/23 Europa League final.

But Mourinho, who led Roma to the UEFA Europa Conference League title in 2021/22, insists he has given up trying to challenge decisions.

“If I appeal, I will get a six-month ban,” he said. “There is nothing to do since the Sevilla-Roma final. There is nothing to do. It is what it is.

“That's why I say if the future is maybe better without European competitions. So, I don't get upset. It is what it is. “

The result left Fenerbahce unbeaten from their opening three games in the Europa League, with a win and two draws to their name, while it marked a third successive draw for United.

Mourinho’s side sit fourth in the Turkish Super Lig, eight points behind rivals Galatasaray, although they have played one game fewer than the league leaders.
