Ruben Amorim warns semi-final 'could change' after Manchester United stun Athletic Club - 'Anything can happen'

Manchester United stormed to a surprise 3-0 win over Athletic Club in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League semi-final, but Ruben Amorim warned afterwards that the tie is not over. United will hope to finish the job in next Thursday's second leg at Old Trafford - in a game that will be live on TNT Sports and discovery+ - and reach the final in Bilbao on May 21.

Ruben Amorim has warned that Manchester United's UEFA Europa League semi-final against Athletic Club is not over despite his team's surprise 3-0 first-leg win.

It was a dream night for United in Bilbao on Thursday night - in a game shown live on TNT Sports and discovery+ - as Casemiro put them in front and Bruno Fernandes scored twice, one from the penalty spot.

But Amorim is not counting his chickens ahead of next week's second leg at Old Trafford.

"Any game can change with one situation. We had an opportunity to score one more. This is not done and they can do the same at Old Trafford," Amorim told TNT Sports.

"Of course, we have an advantage. We have our fans, but again, this could change. Anything can happen in one game.

"The result is really good, but we have to understand the result at the same time. We struggled a lot at the beginning and the sending off changed the game.

"They're really strong and intense. We need to be prepared. Manuel Ugarte with a lot of experience, was a little nervous, Patrick [Dorgu] was nervous. Players like Casemiro, Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes help a lot."

Maguire was the unlikely provider of United's first goal, following up his last-gasp goalscoring heroics against Lyon last month with some trickery on the right wing and then a fine cross, which was flicked on by Ugarte and headed in by Casemiro.

"He's a good winger," Amorim joked. "Sometimes there are moments in our life, and Harry has had difficult moments. Everything he does is good for the team, so we have to enjoy."

United have had a terrible Premier League season and are currently 14th in the table.

But they still have this one last chance of a trophy, which if they win, would also secure UEFA Champions League football next season.
