Barcelona capture signing of Spain international Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig on six-year deal

Barcelona have completed the signing of Spain's Euro 2024 hero Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig for a fee of around £47 million. The 26-year-old has signed a six-year deal at Camp Nou after becoming a key player in Spain's winning campaign at this summer's Euros in Germany. The signing is the first major bit of business for Barcelona as they look to take back the Spanish title from Real Madrid.

Barcelona have completed the signing of Spanish midfielder Dani Olmo from RB Leipzig for an estimated £47 million, with around £6m in future potential add-ons.

The contract will run until 2030 with a release clause of €500m.

The Spanish star rejoins the club he left as a teenager, having departed La Masia at the age of 16 to join Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb in 2014. He went on to sign for Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in 2020 for a fee of £25m.

The Barcelona native has impressed in Leipzig's midfield since joining four years ago, linking up with team-mates like Christopher Nkunku, Dominik Szoboszlai and Timo Werner during their spells at the German club.

Slovenia striker Benjamin Sesko and Dutch attacker Xavi Simons combined with Olmo last season to fire their club to a fourth-place finish in the Bundesliga and secure a UEFA Champions League place for the 2024-25 season.

The versatile midfielder can play in a range of positions, including either wing and the No. 10 role. He starred in Spain's Euro 2024 campaign, sharing the Golden Boot after scoring three goals, including one in the semi-final against France, and providing two assists in six games at the tournament.

Despite starting the opening two games on the bench, the 26-year-old became a key figure for Spain in the knockout stages, with match-winning displays against Germany in the quarter-final and France in the semi-final.

Olmo also made a key intervention in the final against England, blocking John Stones' header off the line in the final minutes.

Olmo's move to Barcelona comes after frustrations in their pursuit of Nico Williams. The Catalan club were reportedly keen to sign the 22-year-old winger from Athletic Bilbao, but Williams has decided to remain at his boyhood club after signing a new three-year contract extension in December.
