FC Barcelona superstar Aitana Bonmati has signed a new blockbuster deal with the club that will keep her with the European champions until 2028.
Bonmati, 26, was due to become a free agent at the end of the 2024/25 season and there had been speculation that a number of clubs, most notably Arsenal and Chelsea, had been monitoring her situation.
However, the Catalan giants have moved quickly to secure their star midfielder's future, with Bonmati putting pen to paper on a contract that will run until the end of the 2027/28 campaign.
No terms have been officially announced but it has been widely reported that it is now the biggest contract in women's football history.
It is a significant move for Barcelona, who also signed Bonmati's midfield partner Alexia Putellas to a new contract earlier in the summer.
Putellas, who is Barcelona's all-time top scorer with 189 goals, has signed on until 2026.
However, Barcelona could be set to lose one of their midfield stars, Keira Walsh, whose contract expires in the summer.
It has been reported that on deadline day Arsenal made a world-record bid of £930,000, but Barca chose to reject it.
While the potential exit of Walsh would be a blow for the Blaugrana, extending Bonmati's stay is a major boost.

The Spain international is the current Ballon d'Or holder, and she is the favourite again to lift the trophy this year after leading Barcelona to a treble last season.
Bonmati enjoyed a tremendous season that ended with her scoring the opening goal in the Champions League final against Lyon.
