UEFA Champions League holders Paris Saint-Germain have agreed a deal to sign 18-year-old forward Dro Fernandez from La Liga champions Barcelona. The teenager had been linked with a transfer away from the Catalan club in recent months and had a release clause that was reportedly worth around £5.2 million. Paris Saint-Germain have signed 18-year-old forward Dro Fernandez from Barcelona on a contract until 2030.
The move had been expected in the January transfer window after it was reported that the teenager was open to leaving the Spanish champions.
Dro had a release clause of €6 million (£5.2m) but it is believed that PSG paid a little over that sum to maintain the good relations between the two sides.
However, Barca president Joan Laporta has described the deal as an "unpleasant situation" following a reported dispute with the player's representatives.
"I am very happy, incredibly excited," Dro said in his first interview as a PSG player. "It's a proud moment for me and my family, I can't wait to get started.
"It's a big step. I made this decision to keep growing as a player and I believe this is the best place to do it.
"That's why I'm here, I believe there's no better place to grow. The current youth project here is incredible, thanks to the coach and everyone who makes it possible. That's why I'm here."
Dro joined the Catalan giants aged 14 and, after graduating from the La Masia academy, went on to make his first-team debut aged 17 in a 2-1 victory over Real Sociedad last September.
Barca head coach Hansi Flick promoted Dro to the first-team squad and was asked about the possible transfer in a recent press conference. He remained tight-lipped but he did let his frustration show.
"I put a lot of effort in the young players and helping them improve, but there are a lot of people around them," he said.
"There are footballers who are 17 or 18 but who have people who make decisions. I don’t want to say more."

Laporta was not best pleased about how the transfer was handled and, speaking to Catalan radio, he said: "We had agreed a new situation with Dro for when he turned 18 and surprisingly his agent informed us that he couldn’t fulfill what had been agreed."
Dro has also played in the UEFA Champions League for Barcelona and grabbed his first assist in a 6-1 win over Olympiacos. Both Barca and PSG are aiming to secure top-eight finishes when the competition's league phase reaches its conclusion on Wednesday night, with every match live on TNT Sports.
"I'm a creative player who likes to run with the ball, a good decision-maker, and I'm entertaining to watch," Dro said when asked about his player profile.
