Manchester City have confirmed that Erling Haaland is set for a spell on the sidelines after suffering an ankle injury in the FA Cup win over Bournemouth on Sunday.
The Norwegian was hurt in a challenge with Bournemouth midfielder Lewis Cook.
City won the match 2-1 to reach the last four of the tournament, but it is not yet clear if Haaland will be fit to take part in any further matches in the club’s last hope of domestic silverware.
City confirmed in a statement that Haaland had undergone tests on his ankle, but a specialist would be consulted to get a better idea of his chances of playing again this season.
Pep Guardiola’s team are not yet certain of UEFA Champions League football next season, and it seems likely that his top scorer will miss this week’s league matches against Leicester and Manchester United.
They will play games against Crystal Palace and Everton before a semi-final in the FA Cup against Nottingham Forest at Wembley, on April 26.
However, the club do expect Haaland to be fit for the club’s participation in this summer’s Club World Cup.
A club statement read: "Erling underwent initial tests in Manchester on Monday morning and will now seek specialist consultation to confirm the full extent of the injury.
"Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain a full prognosis. The expectation is that Erling will be fit in time to play a further part in the remainder of this season, including this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup."

Omar Marmoush, signed in the winter transfer window from Eintracht Frankfurt, could start up front while Haaland is out injured.
Marmoush came off the bench to replace Haaland on Sunday and scored the winning goal against The Cherries.
This is the latest blow for City, who saw an early season injury to Rodri derail their attempt to retain their Premier League title.
