'Launched it past his head!' – Rio Ferdinand lifts lid on Roy Keane fury in Chelsea dressing room in 2004

Roy Keane was not one to take any prisoners in the aftermath of a disappointing result during his Manchester United career. The combative midfielder was particularly enraged by a 1-0 loss at Chelsea in 2004, as revealed by TNT Sports' pundit Rio Ferdinand. The former defender recounted than an apoplectic Keane threw a bottle towards Gary Neville after the players had returned to the dressing room.

Rio Ferdinand has revealed Roy Keane's furious reaction to Manchester United's 1-0 defeat against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in 2004.
Keane, according to Ferdinand, threw a Lucozade bottle in fury, narrowly missing team-mate Gary Neville.
Speaking ahead of Chelsea's Premier League clash with Southampton - live on TNT Sports and discovery+ - Ferdinand recounted the story.
"My funniest memory here... I think we got beaten 1-0, I didn't play actually, I was suspended, and Roy Keane played centre-half," Ferdinand said on TNT Sports, alongside Joe Cole and Peter Crouch in the away dressing room at Stamford Bridge.
"We came in, and Gary Neville was moaning. Roy Keane picked up - remember Lucozade, the squeezy ones - launched it, just went past his [Neville's] head.
"Then it simmered down a little bit, but it was my first real time seeing Roy losing it, losing his rag."
United's games against Chelsea in the mid-2000s were usually heated, hard-fought affairs, and Ferdinand admitted Stamford Bridge was often a daunting venue.

"Always a tough place to come, especially when Jose Mourinho came, it became a place where you had to roll your sleeves up and work hard," he said. "The fans were always behind the team."
While the away dressing room at Chelsea is decidedly less glamorous than the home one, Ferdinand told of his experience in far worse surroundings.

Asked which dressing room was the worst he had been, the former United defender said: "In the Premier League, I went to Barnsley. First day of the season, roasting hot, it was probably half the size of this, and they had the heaters on. Unbelievable."
