Mohamed Salah delivered an ambiguous message on social media on Sunday, saying that "no matter what happens," he would "never forget" the feeling of scoring at Anfield, amid uncertainty over his future at Liverpool.

The in-form forward's contract expires at the end of the 2024/25 season, alongside influential team-mates Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk.

And after scoring his ninth goal of the season in Liverpool's 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, the Egypt international took to social media, expressing his love for the club with a cryptic comment that could be interpreted as a hint towards his unresolved contract situation.

"Top of the table is where this club belongs," he said on X. "Nothing less.

"All teams win matches, but there’s only one champion in the end. That’s what we want.

"Thank you for your support last night. No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield feels like."

Salah has started his eighth season at Anfield in fine form, providing nine goals and seven assists in 15 matches as Arne Slot's side sit atop the Premier League table by two points, as well as maintaining a perfect record in the UEFA Champions League.

But there has been ongoing talk around the futures of Salah, Alexander-Arnold and Van Dijk, with question marks around the trio's Liverpool status beyond this season.

Captain Van Dijk said in October that contract talks were "ongoing", but offered no insight into how close a deal was to completion, adding "we will see what happens".

Slot previously said that he would not engage in talks around players' contracts with the media, but insisted that the situation was not "disruptive" to his squad, who have lost just once so far in the Dutchman's debut season in charge.

But the expiring deals have sparked speculation over the Liverpool stars' futures, with Alexander-Arnold widely linked with a move to Real Madrid, while Salah has been touted for a move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad.

Liverpool will look to continue their emphatic start to the 2024/25 Champions League campaign against Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday.
