Bournemouth continued their fine form with a 5-0 crushing win over high-flying Nottingham Forest on Saturday, while Newcastle United kept up their hunt for a UEFA Champions League spot with a 3-1 win at Southampton.
Justin Kluivert continued his excellent goalscoring form for the Cherries with a fine goal in the ninth minute as the league’s two surprise packages clashed.
The Dutchman's opener was followed by a brilliant hat-trick from Dango Ouattara.
The 22-year-old scored his first after 55 minutes, netting a second six minutes later and a third late on as the home side eased to three points and dented Forest’s Champions League aspirations. Antoine Semenyo then struck in added time to complete the rout of Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.
Bournemouth are in sixth on 40 points, level with Chelsea in fifth, while Nottingham Forest remain third on 44.
Elsewhere, Southampton took a surprise lead at St Mary's through central defender Jan Bednarek after just 10 minutes, but Eddie Howe’s men quickly regained the initiative.

Star striker Alexander Isak converted from the penalty spot on 26 minutes, before grabbing a brace when he scored from open play four minutes later.
Sandro Tonali then put the away side two goals clear with a fine finish after Newcastle sliced the Southampton defence clean open with a simple through-ball.
Southampton are still rooted to the bottom of the league on six points, 10 from safety. Newcastle are in fourth on 41 points.
Meanwhile, Everton claimed three points at Brighton with a battling 1-0 victory.
Brighton fell behind just before the end of the first half, as new Everton manager David Moyes looked to continue his promising start after recently rejoining the Toffees.
Iliman Ndiaye struck from the spot on 42 minutes and was booked shortly afterwards for imitating a seagull with his celebration in front of the home fans.
The win lifted Everton seven points clear of the bottom three in 16th, while Brighton are ninth on 34 points.
At the other end of the table, Arsenal battled to a 1-0 win at Wolvers despite a first-half setback.
Arsenal suffered a blow when Martin Oliver brandished what appeared to be an extremely harsh red card to Myles Lewis-Skelly just before the end of the first half.

Deep in Wolves’ half, Matt Doherty attempted to start a counter-attack from an Arsenal corner, only for Lewis-Skelly to cynically trip him to eradicate any immediate danger.
With at least 70 more yards for the Wolves man to advance before he threatened David Raya, and given Lewis-Skelly was clearly not the last man, it was a surprise for many to see Oliver stick to his decision, with VAR not calling the ref to double-check his decision.
Joao Gomes was given a second yellow for planting his studs into Jurrien Timber’s ankle on 70 minutes to even up the numbers, and four minutes later, Riccardo Calafiori grabbed what could prove to be a vital winner.
Liverpool were comfortable winners as goals from Dominik Szoboszlai, Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo gave them a 3-0 advantage over relegation strugglers Ipswich Town before the first half was over.
Gakpo struck shortly after the hour mark for his second of the match, with Liverpool cruising to a simple three points, before Jacob Greaves scored a late consolation goal for the visitors.
Arne Slot’s side hold a six-point advantage over second-placed Arsenal, with the league leaders boasting a game in hand. Ipswich are 18th on 16 points, tied with Wolves in 17th.
