Alejandro Garnacho criticised by Joe Cole as Liam Rosenior laments ‘dominant’ Chelsea performance in Manchester United defeat - 'Can do better'

Bruno Fernandes blew past Garnacho before finding Matheus Cunha, who smashed the only goal of the game past Robert Sanchez, as defeat left Chelsea four points behind Liverpool in fifth place.

Meanwhile Liam Rosenior claimed his side ”were the dominant team from minute one to the end of the game” but lamented their failure to capitalise on their chances.

Summer signings Garnacho and Liam Delap - who cost £70 million combined - were key figures in the defeat, as Delap hit the crossbar from a header that was Chelsea’s best chance of the game.

”You are spending a lot of money and if you do not spend it in the right places at the right time with the right reasons and cause, you are going to end up with a lopsided squad,” Cole told TNT Sports.

”Great players will expose you, I think Garnacho can do better here. If you are going to get back there, deal with it, deal with the problem. It gets cut back and it is a wonderful finish from Cunha as he is coming in.

”It is moments, you have got him [Fernandes] facing away from goal. He is not Adama Traore with all due respect to him, you can deal with that but you just let him waltz past you. These little things that Chelsea are doing at the moment are costing them.”

To rub salt into the wound, United scored while Wesley Fofana was down injured, though Rosenior refused to blame that for the defeat.

Chelsea ended the game with 1.55 expected goals compared to The Red Devils’ tally of 0.29, as Rosenior’s side suffered their fourth straight Premier League defeat to nil

”Up until the box, very good,” Rosenior said of the performance to TNT Sports. ”I can only say what I saw, I thought we were the dominant team from minute one to the end of the game, to lose this game in the manner that we did is extremely disappointing because we had many opportunities to win the game.

”Extremely frustrating [to concede while a man down], I think that is their only shot on target, down to 10 men in the moment but I have to say we have to defend that moment better.

"At this level you cannot switch off at any moment no matter how in control of the game you are and it feels like any small mistake is ending up in the back of our net and that has to change.

”It has been a difficult spell. We are making key errors in key moments and we are not taking advantage of the chances that we are creating and when you do that you do not win games of football.

”It has to turn around quickly, I am delighted we have a game on Tuesday to get this out of our system and we have to go to Brighton and put things right.”
