Chelsea have announced the signing of Jamie Gittens from Borussia Dortmund on a seven-year deal.

The winger arrives at Stamford Bridge for a reported fee of £48.5 million, plus the potential for a further £3.5m in add-ons.

He scored 12 goals and registered five assists in 48 appearances for Dortmund in the 2024/25 campaign.

Gittens told the Chelsea website: "It feels great. It’s a great feeling to join such a big club as Chelsea.

"I can’t wait to learn from everyone in the team and to push myself to the max here. It’s an amazing feeling."

The 20-year-old will not be able to play for Chelsea until after their FIFA Club World Cup campaign, having already competed in the tournament with Dortmund.

It's the latest piece of business for Chelsea in a busy summer window, having already signed Liam Delap, Joao Pedro, Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr.

The decision to sign Gittens, who operates predominantly on the left, comes after they opted against signing Jadon Sancho permanently following his loan move from Manchester United last season.

Meanwhile, another of Chelsea's left-wing options, Mykhailo Mudryk, has been charged by the Football Association with violating its anti-doping rules and could face a four-year ban.

Gittens joined Dortmund from Manchester City's youth system in 2020 and went on to make 106 appearances for the Bundesliga side.

The transfer fee was previously reported as a key part of Dortmund's summer rebuild, with Gittens not fitting into the system of head coach Niko Kovac.

The 20-year-old had scored key goals for the German outfit, notching four times in the UEFA Champions League last season.

One of those came away against Real Madrid, while he also found the net against Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga.

Dortmund confirmed on Thursday a deal had been agreed for Gittens, with sporting director Sebastien Kehl describing talks with Chelsea as "challenging".

"Jamie is an outstanding player who has given us a great deal of pleasure," he added.

"He now wants to take the next step in his career at Chelsea, and we wish him all the best and much success."
