Liverpool have announced the signing of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth up to £79 million.
It will consist of £69m up front with a further £10m in add-ons should certain conditions be met.
"Liverpool FC have reached an agreement for the transfer of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike, subject to international clearance," said a club statement.
"The 23-year-old has successfully completed a medical and agreed personal terms with the Reds, allowing him to fly out to Hong Kong to join his new teammates on their pre-season tour of Asia later this week.
"Ekitike arrives at Liverpool after a season-and-a-half in Germany, having initially moved to Eintracht on loan from Paris Saint-Germain."
He is one of Europe’s exciting young talents, impressing throughout the 2024/25 campaign by scoring 15 goals in 33 appearances in Germany’s Bundesliga.
Liverpool contended with Premier League rivals Newcastle for the former PSG attacker's signature, and it is understood that The Magpies had a £70m bid for Ekitike rejected, according to multiple sources.
The Reds also showed strong interest in Newcastle’s star striker Alexander Isak, but the club insisted he is not for sale.
Ekitike is the latest in a series of summer signings for Arne Slot, who broke the club’s record transfer fee in recruiting attacking forward Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen in a reported record British transfer worth up to £116m.
Following the departure of right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, the Premier League champions have also bolstered their defence by bringing in Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen and Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth.
After a summer of heavy spending, some notable departures from Anfield are expected.
Darwin Nunez had been linked with a move to Napoli or a Saudi Pro League side, while rumors persist that Bayern Munich will eventually reach an agreement to sign Luis Diaz.
