Michael Carrick named permanent Manchester United manager on two-year deal after securing UEFA Champions League qualification

Michael Carrick has been appointed as the permanent head coach of Manchester United after a successful spell as interim boss at Old Trafford.

Carrick has successfully guided United back to the UEFA Champions League, having taken the job as interim when Ruben Amorim was sacked in January.
The former midfielder has been rewarded with a two-year deal to continue in the role.
”From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United,” Carrick said.

United's fortunes have improved considerably since Amorim was dismissed as manager - and replaced in the dugout by Carrick - after 14 months in January.

Carrick kicked off with two big victories - over Manchester City and Arsenal - and it's generally been a happy news story for United since.
United will finish in third place in the league table, and will be playing Champions League football again next season.
No club in the top flight has won more points than the 36 United have collected since Carrick's appointment.
He has been named on a six-man shortlist for the Premier League's manager of the season award.
Now he has been given the task of leading the club back to their glory days, which have been hard to recapture since legendary former manager Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.

”In the time he has been doing the role, we have seen positive results on the pitch, but more than that, an approach which aligns with the club’s values, traditions and history.
”Michael’s achievements in leading the club back to the Champions League should not be understated.
”He has forged a strong bond with the players and can be proud of the winning culture at Carrington and in the dressing room, which we are continuing to build.”

Carrick spent 12 years in United's midfield, winning five Premier League titles, the Champions League and the FA Cup.
He had a three-game stint as United's temporary boss after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dismissal in 2021.
Carrick has one more match to focus on this season, at Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday, and will then prepare for another vital summer for United.
