Ruben Amorim vows to fight on as Manchester United boss after Brentford defeat: 'I'm always comfortable with the job - I'm not concerned'

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim says he is "not that kind of guy" to worry about his future after watching his side suffer the 21st defeat of his reign. United have collected just 32 points in 35 Premier League games under the Portuguese after they were beaten 3-1 at Brentford, but Amorim said: "I am always comfortable with the job. I am not concerned. It is not my decision."

Ruben Amorim believes Manchester United did not impose themselves on the game well enough after falling to a 3-1 defeat in the Premier League against Brentford - but has reiterated he is not concerned despite the mounting pressure.

Igor Thiago's brace and a goal from Mathias Jensen secured a comfortable win for The Bees, against a United side who found the target through Benjamin Sesko's first goal for the club.

Bruno Fernandes would then miss a penalty, before Jensen wrapped up the points late on with a fine individual effort.

Amorim was disappointed with how his side approached the game in west London.

He told TNT Sports: "The feeling is always the same. Of course we want to win. I think we didn't control the game; we played the game of Brentford.

"All the crucial moments were against us, so it's tough to lose again, but we need to think about the next one."

When asked if his team showed a willingness to fight, like in the win against Chelsea last week, Amorim replied: "In some moments [showed fight], but we can do better. That is the main point."

Brentford’s opener came after a United defensive lapse that saw Thiago latch onto Jordan Henderson’s long ball before beating Harry Maguire with ease and unleashing a fine finish past Altay Bayindir.

Speaking later to the BBC, Amorim was asked if he was worried about his future, with the Portuguese saying: "I am always comfortable with the job. I am not concerned. It is not my decision. I will do the best I can every minute I am here. I am never concerned about my job, I am not that kind of guy."

Amorim expressed his frustration that their work on the training ground did not come to fruition and added: "The first goal was a long ball after a recovery, we worked on that during the week.

"We worked on set pieces too, and we knew about their long balls, but then with one first touch, they have the opportunity [to score].

"The goals were like that, but we worked during the week and we need to do better.

"In some moments we had control of the game and pushed the opponent to the back, but the game was more or less all the same.

"We need to play our game, not the opponents' game and we need to be stronger on that."

The Red Devils have one more game ahead of the international break against Sunderland next Saturday, and Amorim spoke about the importance of bouncing back.

He said: "It's always the same, to lose at this kind of club we need to, it hurts a lot, we need to think about the next one.

"Everything is important at this club. It's not just the games at home, we need to win every game and we are not doing that."

For Brentford, this was the most impressive they have looked so far under new manager Keith Andrews, who watched his side produce the perfect response to the 3-1 defeat at Fulham last weekend.

"It was a special afternoon, I think it was a result that we deserved," said Andrews. "I was really proud of the performance, had to show different ways of playing. We approached the first half with real bravery, courage on the ball, caused them a lot of problems, whether it was playing short to entice them in and then play long, penetrate them with real quality, and then, naturally, the game swings in different ways and you have to react to that.

"Whether that was subs coming on and how they reacted and how they refreshed the energy and the spirit within the team, but you could see right until the end when we got the third goal that it's very much a team effort."

Thiago's brace in the first half extended his impressive start to the campaign, with the Brazilian now on five goals from seven matches across all competitions.

Andrews added: "I watched Igor close quarters last year, the struggles he's had and it's the worst part for a footballer being injured and not being able to do the thing you love doing.

"So I really felt for him and built up a good relationship with Igor behind the scenes because of the nature of that and I've always been aware of his qualities as a footballer and how much he wants it.

"I think sometimes he wants it too much too soon and needs to be patient in getting rhythm into his game, but his contribution to this team was never going to be in doubt, and to the outside world now is starting to see that."
