The Red Devils appeared to be heading towards defeat until Matthijs de Ligt popped up with a stoppage-time goal to ensure they drew 2-2 with Spurs. United will face Everton in their next Premier League fixture.

TNT Sports expert Owen Hargreaves believes that Manchester United will finish in the top four in the Premier League table this season after they rescued a 2-2 draw against Tottenham Hotspur.

Ruben Amorim's United looked to be heading towards victory after Bryan Mbeumo’s goal, but fine finishes from Mathys Tel and Richarlison made it 2-1 to Spurs heading into the closing stages of the match.

However, Matthijs de Ligt scored in the sixth minute of stoppage time to earn a point for his side and leave The Red Devils in seventh place in the Premier League table.

United’s next four league fixtures are against Everton, Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, and Hargreaves believes his former side could be in second place at the end of that run.

"I think he [Amorim] will be happy to get a goal late in the game," said the former England international.

"They are still in a decent position.

"There is no European football, and if they look at the fixtures coming up, they have Everton, Palace, West Ham and Wolves.

"After those, they will be second, and then they will be in a position where they can strike.

"If you look at all of that, with no European football, Manchester United will finish in the top four.

"That is my opinion at the moment."

A point left Spurs in third place on goal difference, level on 18 points with Liverpool, Sunderland, Bournemouth and United.

Hargreaves praised Thomas Frank’s side for being willing to take a risk and push players forward in the closing stages of the match.

"Last season they would have lost this game," he said.

"To be fair, it was probably a game they should have won, they had comfortable control of it.

"Then they probably dropped just a bit too deep.

"You have got to credit Spurs as well, they pushed players forward, got bodies in the box and kept crossing it.

"But I thought when Harry Maguire, Casemiro went off, they lost some of that control that they had."

United’s recent run of positive results has been a welcome relief for Amorim, who was under immense pressure to perform in the early stages of the season.

He thinks that his players have the belief to score goals in the final moments of matches.

"During the game we felt like the three points were there to take home," Amorim said.

"But then with everything that happened, Harry Maguire and Casemiro coming off and conceding two goals... we scored again and it's a point.

"When you cannot win you don't lose. Once again we did that.

"We have so much to grow as a team, because today was our day to win this game.

"We need to look at ourselves, we were not pressing with the same intensity, we felt comfortable but we need to understand that if we had more bravery, we could have killed the game.

"But sometimes this happens. You have a better first half than second.

"We believe in our capacity to score goals until the last minute."
