Steven Gerrard offered Bristol City job, Chelsea face Andoni Iraola competition from Premier League rivals Crystal Palace – Paper Round

The Independent carries the report, with City hoping the former Aston Villa and Rangers boss will be keen on the role.

Gerrard has also been linked with Burnley, should they dismiss Scott Parker, and it is believed the Liverpool legend is open to a job in the second tier in light of Frank Lampard’s success at Coventry City.

The Independent adds: ”Bristol City are said to have laid out an enticing and attractive project as they attempt to convince the 45-year-old to join. If Gerrard were to take the job at Ashton Gate, which he is understood to be open to, he would be succeeding his old England and Liverpool manager, Roy Hodgson, who is there temporarily.

”Gerrard is said to be keen to get into management as soon as possible.

”It is similarly understood that many of his generation have taken note of the renewed respect for Frank Lampard after his work at Coventry City, and the way he dug in through the EFL.”

Andoni Iraola is a top candidate to take over at Chelsea but Crystal Palace are also hopeful of appointing the head coach, the Daily Mail reports, with the Spaniard leaving Bournemouth at the end of the season.

Iraola is under consideration at Chelsea, who sacked Liam Rosenior last week.

The Mail adds: ”However, Palace are believed to have spoken to Iraola's camp as they prepare for Oliver Glasner's own departure this summer, with sources adding they consider him their top choice.

”Iraola is not the only name being studied by the Blues. Fulham boss Marco Silva is among the contenders as is former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso, who was sacked by Real Madrid in January just six months after joining as head coach from Bayer Leverkusen. Both have experience in English football.

”Chelsea intend to name Rosenior's successor once this season has ended. Sources have insisted they are taking a disciplined approach in identifying the right long-term appointment, adding they are targeting a head coach who is aligned with the club's vision, can develop their squad and deliver consistent performances and results.”

Liam Delap wants to stay and fight for his future at Chelsea, the Telegraph reports, although the identity of the club’s next permanent coach will be crucial.

With Joao Pedro for company, Emmanuel Emegha set to join from Strasbourg and Nicolas Jackson returning from his loan spell at Bayern Munich, Delap faces an uncertain future at Chelsea.

The Telegraph adds: ”Pedro showed again that he has been a good £60m signing for Chelsea with his performance, in which he struck a post, in the FA Cup semi-final victory over Leeds United. The Brazilian has scored 19 goals in all competitions this season.

”Interim head coach Calum McFarlane preferred Pedro to Delap, who has still only scored one Premier League goal for Chelsea since joining the club for £30m from Ipswich Town.

”Delap’s first season at Stamford Bridge has been interrupted by an injury at the end of August that kept him out for two months and Telegraph Sport understands he still believes he can make his move a success.

”Rather than looking for a move away, Delap is said to be focused on trying to finish the season as positively as possible and returning to Chelsea in the summer to prepare for next season.”

Scott Parker’s future at Burnley is uncertain after the club were relegated from the Premier League, the Guardian reports, with chairman Alan Pace considering his options.

It is believed Parker himself is unsure whether he should continue in the role, meaning there could be a departure by mutual consent with one year left on his current contract.

The Guardian adds: ”Parker replaced Vincent Kompany in July 2024 on the back of relegation and achieved promotion to the Premier League in his first campaign. But Burnley have struggled on their return and last Wednesday’s 1-0 home defeat by Manchester City confirmed an immediate return to the second tier.

”Parker was noncommittal ­regarding his future last week. ”This season has been a huge challenge for us,” he said. ”Discussions about what we need to do as a football club will take place in due course.”
