Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romeo appears to criticise 'other people' at the club in a cryptic social media post following Bournemouth defeat

Tottenham have just one win in their last six Premier League matches and there were heated discussions between players and fans at full-time following defeat to Bournemouth. After the match, captain Cristian Romero took to social media to share his own frustrations - with his words later edited. Spurs boss Thomas Frank says he has had a "good conversation" with Romero.

Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero has seemingly accused some people at the club of telling "a few lies" in a cryptic but now-edited social media post.

Tensions between Spurs players and their supporters were raised again after they conceded a late goal at Bournemouth to lose 3-2 in the Premier League.

Micky van de Ven and Palhinha approached visiting fans and exchanged words with them at full-time, while goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario shepherded an animated Pedro Porro away from the crowds.

Spurs have been booed on a number of occasions this season, with fans even chanting "boring, boring Tottenham" at their own team during their recent goalless draw against Brentford.

After the defeat to Bournemouth, Romero took to social media and a section of his post read: "At times like this, it should be other people coming out to speak, but they don't - as has been happening for several years now.

"They only show up when things are going well, to tell a few lies."

The post has since been edited - removing the suggestion of lying. 

"Apologies to all fans of you who follow us everywhere, who are always there and will continue to be," Romero wrote.

"We are responsible, there's no doubt about that. I am the first. But we will keep facing up to it and trying to turn the situation around, for ourselves and for the club.

"At times like this, it should be other people coming out to speak, but they don't - as has been happening for several years now. They only show up when things are going well.

"We'll stay here, working, sticking together and giving our all to turn things around. Especially at times like this, keeping quiet, working harder and moving forward all together is part of football.

"All together, it will be easier."

Frank reveals talks with Romero

Defeat at the Vitality Stadium put more pressure on manager Thomas Frank during his first season in charge at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Frank said on Thursday that himself and co-sporting director Johan Lange had a "good conversation" with Romero following the Bournemouth defeat.

"I think after Cuti became club captain, he's done a lot of things right. I said it when I named him captain that he's an experienced player who has tried a lot.

"He's still a young leader. A lot of things he's done well on and off the pitch, I'm happy with. I was actually happy with his performance last night. He was a true captain in many ways throughout the game. Half-time, he was speaking up at 2-1 down, keep believing, keep the right things.

"When you're a young leader, sometimes you make a mistake. It's, of course, good to keep it internally. Johan and I had a good conversation with him this morning about everything, and we keep it internally.

"We had a good conversation about things."

Tottenham are 14th in the Premier League table and have won just one of their last six matches in the top flight.

Frank said the loss on the south coast was a "tough one to take". 

"I think hopefully everyone can see how hard it works to get everything in the right direction," he added.

"I think overall the performance was good, especially in the second half, and again where we deserved to get more. That is extremely painful to be part of so, of course, people are frustrated, I'm frustrated."

Frank was thrust further into the spotlight after he was seen drinking from an Arsenal cup before the game at Bournemouth.

Tottenham’s next match is against Aston Villa in the third round of the FA Cup - which you can watch on TNT Sports and discovery+.

That is followed by a London derby in the Premier League against West Ham and UEFA Champions League fixtures against Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt.
