Bruno Saltor bemoans 'every small detail going against us' as Spurs' struggles continue with home defeat to relegation rivals Nottingham Forest

Tottenham Hotspur remain firmly in the Premier League relegation battle following their 3-0 home defeat to Nottingham Forest. Assistant coach Bruno Saltor said "every small detail is going against us" but is confident Spurs can avoid relegation. Tottenham Hotspur assistant coach Bruno Saltor said "every small detail is going against us" after a damaging home defeat to Premier League relegation rivals Nottingham Forest.

Spurs remain without a league victory this year after they were beaten 3-0 by Forest.

The result sees Forest move up into 16th in the table, a place above Spurs, who are just one point above the relegation zone.

Interim coach Igor Tudor did not attend the post-match press conference owing to a family bereavement, but Saltor was left to reflect on another defeat for Spurs.

Asked what went wrong against Forest, he said: "I think in the small details, I thought for 44 minutes in the first half we were the better team. Again, I think any mistake that we make, any small detail goes against us and we're not able to capitalise on the opposition's mistakes, and probably that affected the team.

"That's our job as coaches, to keep helping the players. And as you can see, the players, they care and they are 100 per cent trying their best. But at the moment, it's not enough."

Tottenham have not won any of their past 13 league matches and have taken just 30 points from 31 Premier League games this season.

They had appeared to be heading in a positive direction after drawing with Liverpool and beating Atletico Madrid in their previous two matches.

Saltor says those "great performances" give him belief that Spurs can turn their fortunes around.

"On the first half today, to be honest, I think we should have been 1-0 up at least.

"If you look at the stats, we created clear chances, but as I said, right now, every small detail is going against us and it's about turning that around and that's what gives me confidence."

On Tudor, Saltor said: ”It’s a personal family issue and obviously it’s a difficult moment for him. We’re just trying to support him the best way we can.”

Spurs do not play again until April 12 when they travel to Sunderland.

Forest must keep 'feeling like champions'

Like Spurs, Forest also made a mid-season coaching change in a bid to avoid relegation, bringing in Vitor Pereira to replace Sean Dyche.

Forest have lost just one of their past five games and their win over Spurs sees them move three points above the relegation zone.

Pereira said it was a belief-boosting victory but that his side should not get carried away.

"When you win a game, you get confidence,” he said.

"When you come here and you win 3-0, a clean sheet, of course it is something important for confidence. ‘We can, we can, we can.’ The big mistake is thinking that we came here and won and then the next game: ‘We won the [last] game.’

"We have seven more games to win. We need to keep the mentality and the team spirit playing as a fighter, feeling like champions inside of us.

”It is good for belief because we need to believe in ourselves. It is not about Tottenham, about West Ham, about Leeds, it is about us. It is about what we want for next season. We are alive, we are committed and we are ready to fight.”
