Wolves sack head coach Vitor Pereira after winless start to Premier League campaign, despite recent contract extension

Vitor Pereira has been relived of his duties as Wolverhampton Wanderers head coach after a 3-0 defeat to Fulham continued the club’s winless start to the Premier League season. Wolves have claimed just two points from 10 domestic games so far this term and are rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table.

Wolverhampton Wanderers have sacked head coach Vitor Pereira with the club sitting bottom of the Premier League, after picking up just two points from 10 games this season.
Wolves were beaten 3-0 at Craven Cottage on Saturday after being reduced to 10 men with the sending off of Emmanuel Agbadou in what Pereira described as "one of the worst" performances of his tenure.
It continued Wolves' winless start to the campaign and means they are already eight points from safety, while they were also knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Chelsea.
Pereira took over in December of last year when Wolves were second from bottom in the table, and steered them to safety.
The 57-year-old also recently signed a three-year contract extension despite the poor start to the season.
Wolves’ two draws came against Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion, but they have lost their last three league games.
They have conceded 22 goals, the most of any club, while they have the joint-worst record going forward, having found the net just seven times in 10 games.
Pereira was subjected to chants of "you’re getting sacked in the morning" during the loss to Fulham but vowed to fight on.
"I’m disappointed today. I’m not proud of my work, of our work, because I don’t know why," he told Wolves TV.
"I don’t know if it’s because mentally, we put a lot of energy in the last game against Chelsea until the last minute.
"I’ve tried everything. We started the last game against Chelsea in 4-3-3, and after we realised that in 4-3-3 we were not defending in our level and we were not playing in our level. I changed the system and we were able to play in the second half.
"The second half was very good, in my opinion, and today we started as we finished the last game, but the dynamic was not there.
"Maybe because we played three games in a short space of time, so I tried to change some players from the last game."

Goalkeeper Sam Johnstone was equally disappointed with the Wolves display against The Cottagers, saying: "It was frustrating. Embarrassing.
"It’s not good enough and we need to do better. We should be embarrassed, and they might not want to hear it, but we obviously apologise to the fans.
"We’re trying our best, but we have to keep going. We’ve got good players and we need to turn it around quickly."
Wolves face Chelsea next at Stamford Bridge, with games against Crystal Palace, Manchester United and Arsenal also on the horizon.
