Phil Foden signs new long-term contract with Manchester City - 'I hope I’ll be able to repay you'

Phil Foden has signed a new contract at Manchester City that will keep him at Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2030. He says it's an "honour to wear the shirt", and is excited to play under new boss Enzo Maresca.

The England international joined City's Under-9 side and rose through the ranks to break into the first team as a 17-year-old.
He has since won six Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League and three FA Cups.
Foden was a regular under Pep Guardiola, picking up 20 major honours overall, adding to the above with five League Cups, three Community Shields, a UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.

Foden's previous deal had been set to expire in 2027. The new deal keeps him with City until 2030.
The 25-year-old featured in England's November World Cup qualifiers and March friendlies, but was not selected for this summer's FIFA World Cup.
Manchester City finished second in the Premier League last season, seven points behind Arsenal.
”Committing my future to [Manchester] City means everything to me,” Foden said in a statement. ”Playing for this club is all I’ve ever wanted to do and it’s always an honour to wear the shirt.
”It’s not lost on me that I’ve been lucky enough to be part of a historic period with so many titles won, but we’re always looking to the future and trying to win more.
”I can only thank the club, staff, team-mates and fans who continue to put their faith in me and trust that I give everything I can for City and I hope I’ll be able to repay you for years to come.
”I can’t wait to work with Enzo [Maresca] again. He was brilliant during the treble season – someone all the players respected and loved working with. To have him back here is exciting.
”Personally, I know I’ve improved so much from working with our coaches and world-class squad and as many of the legends who were here when I first broke through move on, I am excited for the next phase of my career at this great club.”

Foden previously worked with Enzo Maresca when the latter was Guardiola’s assistant in 2022/23. The Englishman putting pen to paper ensures more continuity for Maresca, who has the tough job of following in Guardiola's footsteps.

”Given Phil joined City at the age of nine, his continued success is one that is celebrated in every corner of our club, from the academy staff who helped develop him right through to the City fans who have backed him throughout.
