Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou appointed head coach at Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr in Saudi Pro League - 'A new chapter'

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest boss Ange Postecoglou has been appointed as the head coach of Saudi Pro League club Al Nassr, meaning he will be managing Cristiano Ronaldo and Sadio Mane in the 2026/27 season.

Postecoglou has signed a two-year deal with the Saudi Pro League side, who won the league last season - the first since Portugal international Ronaldo's high-profile move to the club in 2023.

He replaces Jorge Jesus, who leaves upon the expiry of a one-year contract. Portugal boss Roberto Martinez had been linked to the Al Nassr job, before Postecoglou was announced.

"A new chapter," the club said in a statement. "Mr Ange Postecoglou appointed as head coach of the Al-Nassr first team. The contract spans two seasons. We wish him and his staff every success in their journey."

The Australian has been out of management since October, when he was dismissed by Forest after just 39 days in charge.

Postecoglou oversaw only eight matches at the City Ground, failing to win any of them, the team also suffering a Carabao Cup exit to Championship side Swansea City.

Before his spell at Forest, the 60-year-old spent two seasons at Tottenham, winning the UEFA Europa League in his second campaign to end the club's 17-year trophy drought.

Despite that success, he was dismissed after the north London side finished 17th in the Premier League.

Postecoglou began his managerial career in Australia, winning the league title with Brisbane Roar before taking charge of the national team between 2013 and 2017.

Indeed, he led the Socceroos to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Postecoglou then enjoyed title-winning spells with Yokohama F Marinos in Japan, and Celtic in Scotland, before joining Tottenham in 2023.
