AC Milan have confirmed the sacking of coach Paulo Fonseca following a 1-1 draw at home to Roma on Sunday, with Sergio Conceicao being appointed on Monday afternoon.
The Serie A club confirmed Fonseca's departure after just six months in charge, having replaced Stefano Pioli in June.
Fonseca was sent off against Roma in what proved to be his final match in charge.
"Yes, it’s true. I’m out," the 51-year-old told reporters while leaving San Siro after Sunday's match. "That’s life. I did everything I could."
A statement from the club read: "AC Milan announces that Paulo Fonseca has been relieved from his duties as head coach of the men's first team.
"The club extends its gratitude to Paulo for his great professionalism and wishes him the very best in his future endeavours."
Fellow Portuguese coach Sergio Conceicao has been confirmed as Fonseca's replacement, signing on a two-year deal until June 2026.

Fonseca's six months in charge were underlined by an inability to maintain consistent form. Their latest draw, their sixth of the season, left them eighth in the league.
The Rossoneri won just seven of their 17 league matches under Fonseca and are already eight points away from fourth-placed Lazio and UEFA Champions League qualification.
They have fared better in this season's Champions League, where they sit 12th and are on the cusp of the top eight, having notably beaten Real Madrid 3-1 in November.

Conceicao had been without a job since leaving Porto in the summer. He won 11 trophies in his seven-year tenure, including three league titles.
Milan next play Juventus in the Italian Super Cup semi-finals in Saudi Arabia on January 3.
