The Emirates FA Cup fourth round is almost in the rear-view mirror after an incident-packed weekend featuring shock results and controversial calls aplenty.

League One outfit Mansfield Town produced the moment of the weekend when they came from behind to beat Premier League Burnley away from home.

Rhys Oates and Louis Reed were the goalscoring heroes as Nigel Clough’s team delivered an outstanding performance that led TNT Sports pundit Martin Keown to say they "looked more like a Premier League outfit" than their beleaguered opponents.

Chelsea stars save blushes

Chelsea ultimately cruised through to the next round with a 4-0 win away to Hull City, but a number of their players will be grateful for the result after some appalling misses along the way.

With the game still goalless after 15 minutes, rising star Estevao rounded the goalkeeper and looked certain to find the net, only to shank a wild finish over the bar.

Five minutes later, Liam Delap thought he had scored when his charge-down from a goalkeeping clearance came off the bar and the post before bouncing back out.

The striker hesitated and stopped to appeal for the goal, convinced it had crossed, but on seeing it hadn’t, he had a shot smothered with just the keeper to beat.

"I can’t believe that," said TNT Sports co-commentator Lucy Ward. "He sort of stopped." Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior evidently couldn’t believe it either as he gesticulated on the touchline.

Delap was asked about the moment when speaking to TNT Sports after the game and admitted he was a bit embarrassed by how things unfolded.

"I almost ran off," he said. "I thought it went in and was waiting for the ref to blow his whistle. Obviously, I should have put it in the second time but it was crazy… silly from me, but I thought it went in."

Delap may not have found the net, but he did bag a hat-trick of assists for The Blues as Pedro Neto scored three and Estevao another in a comfortable win.

Burton's troublesome net

West Ham had to battle hard to find a way past Burton Albion in the early kick-off on Saturday, in a game that faced an unusual delay from the start.

The ground staff were hard at work fixing a hole in the net before kick-off as the players, managers, fans and referee looked on.

TNT Sports commentator Glenn Hoddle said: "That is going to work against Burton. They have ramped this crowd up with music. They are ready, they are itching to go, they want to go. This net is causing too many problems, it’s taking too long. So it’s not the start for Burton."

The League One side went on to put in an impressive display as they took their Premier League visitors to extra time before falling to a Crysencio Summerville winner.

Reed does it again

Mansfield’s Louis Reed is quickly becoming one of the players of the tournament this season after producing yet another decisive intervention to help his club stage a big upset.

Reed smashed home a stunning long-range strike against Sheffield United in the previous round to give his side a shot at Premier League opposition in Burnley.

He followed that up with an outrageous free-kick to complete Mansfield’s comeback at Turf Moor with 10 minutes to go, producing a sumptuous strike described by TNT Sports commentators as "glorious" and "one of the great FA Cup goals."

'Laughable' handball call enrages Newcastle

Newcastle’s clash with Aston Villa in Birmingham was packed with controversy in the absence of VAR, but arguably the most contentious decision of the day came after an hour with Villa leading 1-0.

Lucas Digne blocked a cross with his arms in the air for a clear handball, but the referee gave a free-kick outside the area despite the Villa defender being quite clearly inside the box when contact was made.

"My word, he’s about a yard inside," said TNT Sports co-commentator Lucy Ward. "Why is his assistant not helping him on that side? He’s not even on the line."

Commentator Sam Matterface said: "As soon as I saw it, I thought it was a penalty, and I don’t understand how the assistant and the referee have come to the conclusion that it is five yards further back than where the offence took place. The Newcastle fans are going mad and Kieran Trippier can’t believe it."

Ward added: "It’s a laughable decision and if you were a Newcastle fan you would be absolutely raging."

Ally's favourite Seagull

There is little doubt over what one of the highlights of the FA Cup weekend was for TNT Sports’ very own Ally McCoist.

On co-comms duty for Liverpool’s comfortable win over Brighton at Anfield, McCoist couldn’t help but chuckle at a travelling fan dressed up with a rubber seagull mask covering their entire head.

McCoist said: "He just got caught stealing chips down the High Street. I'm just thinking, he's got halfway out the door and his missus has told him, ‘You’ve got that big seagull's head on you'. He's certainly cheered us up on a cold night."

Klarer's flying punch

Birmingham City skipper Christoph Klarer picked up an unusual booking during extra-time as his side faced Leeds United at St Andrew’s.

The defender went for a diving header, only to stick out a hand at the last second and receive a yellow card for his troubles.
