Everton determined to keep Branthwaite
Everton do not want to sell Jarrad Branthwaite despite the collapse of the proposed takeover by the Friedkin Group.
Other sales have eased their financial concerns for now, and The Athletic reports that Manchester United are not interested at the current valuation.
The website reports: “Everton have informed Manchester United they do not intend to sanction Jarrad Branthwaite’s exit this summer, irrespective of their proposed takeover by the Friedkin Group (TFG) collapsing.
“The Athletic reported on Friday that TFG’s deal for Everton was off, plunging the Premier League club back into a precarious financial situation.
“It raised speculation Branthwaite may need to be sold and that United could yet land a target for whom they have seen two offers turned down.
“But Everton view this development as changing nothing in regard to the 22-year-old centre-back and maintain that his departure will not even be considered unless their valuation is satisfied.
“Everton believe the transfer fees commanded for defenders like Harry Maguire, Wesley Fofana and Josko Gvardiol in recent years are the benchmark.”
MAN UTD continue Ugarte pursuit
There are more reports that Manchester United continue to hunt Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte.
PSG want around £59 million for the 23-year-old, leaving United open to selling players to raise cash.
The Mirror writes: “Manchester United are determined to make Paris Saint-Germain star Manuel Ugarte their third signing of the summer transfer window.
“United have enjoyed a productive week, signing striker Joshua Zirkzee and defender Leny Yoro, and now want to add a midfielder to their haul. Erik ten Hag’s side have shelled out £36.5 million to land Zirkzee from Bologna and a potential £58m for Yoro from Lille and therefore don’t have a huge amount left for Ugarte.
“PSG only signed Ugarte from Sporting Lisbon last year in a deal worth £51.1m and understandably want to recoup the money they spent and more. The French giants are demanding £59m for the 23-year-old Uruguay international.
“United are open to offers for Victor Lindelof, Casemiro and Scott McTominay and are also hoping to earn around £15m for Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The right-back is being eyed by West Ham, while an offer of less than £30m from Fulham has already been rejected for McTominay, who is attracting attention for the second straight summer window.”
Napoli keen on Gilmour swoop
Former Chelsea manager Antonio Conte hopes to bring Billy Gilmour to Napoli next week.
The Telegraph reports that the Brighton player is a top target for the Italian side, and has two years left on his contract.
The paper states: “Napoli will make a move for Brighton midfielder Billy Gilmour next week, Telegraph Sport understands.
“The Scotland international has been identified by Napoli manager Antonio Conte as a key target to bolster his midfield, with the Italian side set to formalise their interest.
“Conte worked with Gilmour at Chelsea, where the 23-year-old made his breakthrough before moving to Brighton two years ago.
“Gilmour is thought to have two years left on his contract at Brighton, for whom he made 32 Premier League appearances last season.”
Arsenal push to sign Ajax 'keeper
The Evening Standard reports that Arsenal are close to completing a deal for Ajax goalkeeper Tommy Seftord.
The England under-20 international is out of contract next year, and so the Dutch side are willing to sell now.
The paper reports: “Arsenal are finalising a move for Ajax goalkeeper Tommy Setford, with the plan for him to play a part in their tour to the USA.
“The Gunners have agreed a fee with Ajax in the region of €1 million and the 18-year-old is set to bolster Arsenal’s goalkeeping department.
“Ajax had wanted to keep Setford, but he had one year left on his contract and was unwilling to sign fresh terms.”
