The latest reports suggest that the Nigerian could soon be on his way back to Istanbul, as the Turkish giants have decided to meet Napoli's £64 million release clause. Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool had previously been credited with interest.

Galatasaray are set to match Victor Osimhen’s €75 million (£64m) Napoli release clause and pip rivals for the striker’s signature.

The Nigeria international enjoyed a fruitful loan spell with the Turkish side last season, scoring 37 goals in 41 games across all competitions as he won a league and cup double.

Multiple reports claim that Galatasaray are now ready to fork out the full €75m to prise Osimhen away from Napoli.

They reached the decision after having bids of €55m and €60m rejected by the Italian champions, who have Osimhen under contract for one more year.

Galatasaray have gone all-in with a lucrative move for the 26-year-old, who will reportedly earn a salary worth €16m per year net in Istanbul.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Gala are in talks to spread the fee in instalments over five years.

That means they will be making an offer that matches the release clause, rather than triggering it.

The news could come as a disappointment to a long list of suitors who have been linked with the player, including Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Juventus.

Osimhen joined Napoli from Lille in the summer of 2020 on a bumper deal worth up to €80m and enjoyed huge success at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

After scoring 28 goals in an injury-disrupted first two seasons, Osimhen played a starring role in Napoli’s stunning Scudetto win in 2022/23.

The Nigerian’s partnership with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia fired the Partenopei to their first title in 33 years and only the third in their history, sparking wild celebrations in the city.

Osimhen scored 26 league goals in that campaign to finish as Serie A top scorer, picking up a string of awards including Serie A Footballer of the Year, African Footballer of the Year and Serie A Best Striker.

However, Napoli and Osimhen suffered a shocking title defence the following year as they slumped to 10th place, leading to a controversial exit for the striker.

Osimhen departed Napoli in acrimonious circumstances. He was frozen out of the squad after potential moves to Chelsea and Al-Ahli fell through at the end of the transfer window.

Galatasaray signed the striker on loan after the transfer window had closed in many other major European leagues in what proved to be an inspired move.

Osimhen helped the Istanbul club win the league and cup double in his debut season, finishing as the Super Lig's top scorer with 26 goals in 30 appearances.
