Manchester United might let a host of star names leave in the summer, including Bruno Fernandes, while Elliot Anderson, Joao Gomes and others are being considered as the club look to strengthen their midfield options. Elsewhere, Real Madrid are on the hunt for some new co-owners under Florentino Perez, and Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with a move to merge.

United plan clear-out
Manchester United could sell a host of players and see several others leave when their contracts expire next summer.
The Sun reports that Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba could all be targets, and Bruno Fernandes could be one of the players let go.

The paper writes: "England internationals Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton are admired by the United hierarchy while the club registered their interest in Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba in the summer.
"Fernandes has an agreement that he can leave United for an overseas team for £57m next year if he decides to end his Old Trafford career after six-and-a-half years.
"Barcelona have an option to buy Marcus Rashford for £30million, Napoli are obliged to pay £38m for Rasmus Hojlund next year, while Casemiro is likely to be released when his contract expires. Jadon Sancho, on loan at Aston Villa, will also be let go.
"Harry Maguire is approaching the final seven months of his contract and although there have been discussions about a possible renewal, Maguire cast doubt on his future after heading in United’s winner at Liverpool last month.
"Back-up goalkeeper Altay Bayindir and Joshua Zirkzee could also move on next summer amid a lack of playing time."
United may move for Gomes in January
The Mirror reports that Joao Gomes could interest Manchester United in the January transfer window.
The Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder is said to be valued at £44 million by the relegation-threatened West Midlands club.
The paper states: "Wolves star Joao Gomes is being linked with a switch to Manchester United in the upcoming January transfer window. The Red Devils have been rumoured to be searching for a new midfielder since this summer.
"Ruben Amorim strengthened his first-team squad at United this summer with five new signings - most of them boosting their attacking line-up. Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo were each snapped up by United, along with goalkeeper Senne Lammens and left-back Diego Leon.
"As for midfielders, Gomes is one of the latest names to be thrown into the mix as a potential target for United.
"The Brazilian is believed to be valued at around £44 million by Wolves, who recently appointed Rob Edwards as manager. That was on the back of Vitor Pereira's exit from the Midlands club."
Investment firm set to turn down Real Madrid stake
The Athletic believes that US investment firm Sixth Street would not be keen to invest in Real Madrid.
The firm helped with the costs of the work done to the Bernabeu stadium, but are not believed to be interested in taking any stake in the club itself.
The website explains: "Industry sources told The Athletic that given Madrid’s prestige and wealth, there would be a ‘queue down the street from the Bernabeu' of financial companies and wealthy individuals looking to take the opportunity to invest in the new subsidiary company.
"Sources said it was unlikely that any of the club’s current financial partners, such as United States investment firm Sixth Street, which helped finance the approximately €1.8 billion cost of their recent Bernabeu reconstruction, would look to become a part-owner.
"Meanwhile, the change of structure should not affect the legal status of the separate Bernabeu company and brand that Madrid have established to manage all the club’s non-football activities, including Taylor Swift concerts, NFL games and corporate events."

Blades owners fail to deny merger talks
Sheffield United’s owners have not denied that they were willing to explore a merger with stricken local rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
Reports suggest that there had been contact with administrators Begbie Traynors that proposed a potential merger.
The Daily Mail reports: "The US-based owners of Sheffield United have failed to deny that they contacted administrators handling the sale of rivals Wednesday – but are on the hunt for additional investment into their own club, Daily Mail Sport understands.
"We revealed on Tuesday that Begbies Traynor, who have been tasked with finding a buyer for The Owls, had received five bids and had also received an inquiry over the staggering prospect of a potential merger of the two South Yorkshire sides which was promptly dismissed.
"It later emerged that COH Sports, who have been in control across the Steel City at Bramall Lane for 12 turbulent months, had been in touch with the administrators. That development sparked inevitable fury among both fanbases and beyond."
