Xabi Alonso's time in charge of Real Madrid only lasted half a season as he departed last week after losing the final of the Supercopa de Espana.

Eintracht Frankfurt dismissed manager Dino Toppmoller after the 3-3 draw away at Werder Bremen on Friday, and are on the hunt for a new head coach.

German outlet BILD report that Alonso could be the one they turn to after his sterling work with Bayer Leverkusen before getting the Madrid job.

BILD say that Frankfurt sporting director Markus Kroesche "wants to meet with Alonso" but also notes that former Frankfurt manager Marco Rose, most recently of RB Leipzig, is also an option.

Ter Stegen set to leave Barca

Elsewhere in news featuring La Liga and German football, this should be the week that we see Marc-Andre ter Stegen leave Barcelona in search of regular first-team football.

Ter Stegen is one of Barca's best ever goalkeepers but he has been usurped by young superstar Joan Garcia and is now looking for somewhere he can play regularly as he is still holding out hope of making Germany's World Cup squad.

And with that in mind, Catalan outlet SPORT are reporting that he will move to another Catalan side, Girona, on loan this week.

"Marc-Andre ter Stegen's move to Girona is getting closer and closer," Carlos Monfort writes.

"And everything points to it being finalised this week. The parties are in the final stages of the agreement and are in complete agreement, so the official announcement shouldn't be delayed. And there are details that, despite both sides insisting the deal isn't finalised, are very significant.

"According to information obtained by SPORT, Girona has already sent invitations to the goalkeeper's entourage to be present next Monday, January 26, at Montilivi for the match against Getafe CF.

"Although it will be his first week with the team, the coaching staff's plan is for Ter Stegen to start from day one and make his debut in front of his new fans.

"The club is confident that Ter Stegen will provide immediate results in a position that has generated doubts throughout the season. Therefore, they want to accelerate his adaptation and give him a leading role from the outset."

Juventus to try again for Mateta

Juventus are getting busy and they are starting to push hard to try and sign a goalscorer, with their focus fully on Crystal Palace and France forward Jean-Philippe Mateta.

The Palace man is seen as the ideal focal point for new head coach Luciano Spalletti and the way he wants to play.

According to Tuttosport, an initial offer was rejected by Palace, who have already lost defender Marc Guehi to Manchester City, but Juventus are expected to step up their negotiating efforts on Monday to try and get a deal done.

"This is why Juventus CEO Damien Comolli has broken the deadlock in the past few hours, officially opening negotiations with Crystal Palace to bring Jean-Philippe Mateta to Turin," reads the report.

"The French international is considered the ideal player to turn Juventus around in his own way - with goals. The goals Spalletti's side lack to make the definitive leap in quality.

"This is why the Certaldo-born coach has recently urged his management to slow down negotiations regarding the winger and to focus all their chips at this stage on the Palace goalscorer. A new call between the clubs is expected today to try to break the deadlock."

Premier League trio battle for Lille starlet

Finally, we end with Lille's Argentine starlet Matias Fernandez-Pardo, with the 20-year-old midfielder drawing rave reviews for his performances in France.

So much so that the Premier League vultures have started to circle with Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reporting that a trio of clubs from England are looking at Fernandez-Pardo.

Tavolieri writes for Sky Sport CH: "England is not out of the question, however. Clubs like West Ham, Crystal Palace, and Newcastle United have already made enquiries, and the matter is on his new agent's desk.

"While Matias still favours La Liga, offers from the Premier League, financially far more attractive, could ultimately change the situation and make him seriously reconsider."

As mentioned, the player seems to prefer a move to Spain - specifically Atletico Madrid - but the English clubs could change that when he moves, which is most likely to be in the summer.
