An extra-time win in their last-16 clash with AEK Larnaca took Palace through to the quarter-finals, where they put in their best performance so far to beat Italian side Fiorentina 3-0 in the first leg, before progressing 4-2 on aggregate.

As for Shakhtar, the Ukrainian Premier League leaders finished in the top eight of the league phase to progress automatically to the knockout phase.

Victories against Lech Poznan and AZ Alkmaar have seen them reach the semi-finals of a European competition for their first time since their run to the last four of the UEFA Europa League in 2020.
