The 28-year-old opened the scoring for the Scots against Denmark in their final World Cup qualifier in epic style as the men's team booked their place at their first World Cup since 1998.

It all started when Ben Gannon-Doak intercepted an attempted Danish clearance and lifted a cross in towards McTominay.

No one expected what came a second later as McTominay turned away from his marker and launched himself upwards to meet the ball with an outrageous overhead kick, somehow guiding it past Kasper Schmeichel.

The former Manchester United midfielder has become one of the sport's biggest stars, and one of the finest players in Italy since arriving last summer.

Another stellar strike showed just why he has become such an icon in Naples.

It was an unbelievable goal from the experienced international and undoubtedly one of the greatest in Scottish football history.

Tennis legend Andy Murray celebrated the goal on X, writing: "What on earth was that - McTominay you wee dancer!"

No doubt one of McTominay's greatest personal goals too, it also incredibly mirrored his strike for Napoli that clinched their historic 2024/25 Serie A title.

In a near like-for-like goal, he met Matteo Politano's cross and twisted his torso to score a brilliant scissor kick that sent Antonio Conte's side on their way to a 2-0 win against Cagliari.

The Scot has produced moment of magic after moment of magic in both shades of blue, and is cementing himself as a legendary figure for both club and country.

A penalty for Ramsmus Hojlund in the 57th minute seemed to shut the Scottish party down and rain on McTominay's parade.

But Lawrence Shankland's goal in the 78th minute restored hope, only for Patrick Dorgu to pin the hosts back.

It was up to former Arsenal player Kieran Tierney to send Glasgow into pandemonium with a beautiful screamer in injury time, before Kenny McLean scored from his own half to clinch a historic 4-2 win.

Whilst McTominay enjoys World Cup qualification with Scotland, Napoli return to action against Atalanta on Saturday.
