A total of 2,026 rings have been created to commemorate this year's tournament. Thirty will be awarded to members of the winning team, while the remaining 1,996 will be made available to supporters worldwide as official licenced products.

FIFA said in a statement: "In addition to the iconic trophy and prestigious gold medals, a new symbol of triumph will be awarded to the winning team.

"In a momentous first for a FIFA competition, the tournament winners will also receive bespoke championship rings, bringing one of the most recognisable American sporting traditions to the global game."

The winning captain and head coach will initially receive temporary rings immediately after the final to mark the achievement.

The 30 rings reserved for the champions will then be customised before being officially presented at a later date, allowing each piece to be individually fitted.

FIFA added that the customised rings will ensure "the perfect lifelong fit for an achievement that will echo through eternity".

What exactly are these rings?

Each ring will be individually numbered and delivered with a certificate of authenticity. The design will be based around the identity of the winning nation, with the World Cup trophy featured on one side and personalised elements included on the other.
