LIV Golf Virginia round two recap - Lucas Herbert leads Sergio Garcia by six shots at halfway stage

LIV Golf Virginia live comments and updates. Lucas Herbert began with a two shot lead but ended it six in front of the field after an incredible nine-under par round. Sergio Garcia is still second on 11-under, four clear of Richard Brand. Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm are both on five-under par. Herbert's score helped the Australian Ripper GC side to a six-shot teams lead.

Herbert betters first-round heroics with remarkable 63

Lucas Herbert cannot have expected to match his first round of eight-under par at LIV Golf Virginia, but he went one better with a birdie on the last leaving him on 17-under par at the halfway stage of the tournament.

Herbert went on a run of six birdies in seven holes around the turn to pull well away from the field and ended his round with back-to-back birdies.

Sergio Garcia played very well, backing up his six-under par first round to end up six shots behind and four clear of the rest of the field.

Richard Bland hit the second-best score of the day, a six-under par 66, to put himself in third place, with Paul Casey in a share of fourth.

Jon Rahm and Bryson DeChambeau are among those in seventh, but even they can't have much confidence of winning a third event of the year, needing binoculars to see the Aussie streaking away in front.

Unsurprisingly, with Herbert's heroics his Ripper team has a convincing lead on the Teams Leaderboard, six clear of the Crushers and Clerks sides.

Herbert ends with a birdie

Unbelievable. Nine birdies and nine-under par. He is six clear at the halfway stage.

A fantastic approach from Herbert

He leaves himself a four-footer for a 63 and to better yesterday's fantastic score.

Garcia ends with a 67

In many events he would be in the lead or within a shot or two of the lead but such has been Herbert's brilliance he is a long way off.

Bland ends with a 66

A birdie on his final hole moves him up to seven-under.

Herbert moves to 16-under

He left himself a bit to do after rolling his eagle putt wide six foot past the hole, but he put it away to make it an even 8-under for both rounds, with one hole to go. Garcia also birdies the par-five 17th so the gap between them stays at five.

DeChambeau ends with a birdie

Three of his last four in fact so he ends at 5-under, level with Rahm.

Sergio into double figures

His long eagle putt ends just to the right of the hole, giving him a tap in for a birdie. And the lead is now just five.

Garcia reduces lead to six

That's a gap he just might be able to bridge in 36 holes. A good tee shot to the 16th left himself a 15-footer he put away.

Garcia sinks a 20-footer

He has come close to birdies over the last four holes but finally got one at the 14th. He reduces Herbert's lead to a mere seven.

Herbert just misses 15-footer

Just the six birdies in his last eight holes now.

Rahm so close to a chip in

It just stayed out, but it is enough to take him to joint-fourth. A mere ten shots off the leader.

Munoz makes hash of 13th

He left himself a chip from the edge of the green to make par but he leaves it just short. Garcia is now second on his own.

And it sets him up for a three-footer which he nails to go to 15-under. Six birdies in seven holes and EIGHT clear!

Casey has moved up the leaderboard

He is up to five-under after chipping in for an eagle at 17, which is good enough for tied fourth.

Another birdie from Herbert

It's like he is playing a different course. A fifteen-footer drops. He is now SEVEN clear!

Rahm misses a par putt...

And by a distance. Just a ten-footer but he expected it to move a lot from left to right and it did not at all. He goes down to four-under. Do we just give Herbert the win now?

Munoz drops a shot

The birdied the par-four tenth yesterday but this time he makes a five to drop back level with Garcia.

Hatton dropped like a stone

Tyrrell Hatton made consecutive bogeys to drop down to three-under.

Herbert on fire!

Eight-under yesterday and five-under for the first nine today. He is now 13-under-par and has a five-shot lead after a fine tee shot and putt.

Herbert's bunker shot sets up birdie

He drove the green-side bunker and chipped out to five foot, slotting home to go four clear.

Garcia bogeys the ninth

He misses a six-footer to move back to seven-under.

Munoz with an eagle at eight

He went one better than Garcia after also driving the green, rolling home a 20-footer. A birdie-birdie-eagle run to move within two shots of Herbert.

Herbert and Garcia both birdie

Garcia drove the par-four eighth and left himself with a tap in for birdie. Herbert left himself a six-footer which he put away.

Cleeks having a good day

They are tenth in the overall team standings but are level with Ripper at the top of the current standings in Virginia, with Martin Kaymer and Richard Bland both three-under today.

He putts a ten-footer for a birdie on the sixth.

Garcia saves par on the sixth

He would have hoped to better his score on the par five, but hard to sink an eight-footer to hold par. Sebastian Munoz, meanwhile, birdied the hole to move to six-under on his own.

Bryson back to three-under, Rahm one better

Bryson DeChambeau has made two birdies to get back to 3-under while Rahm has moved to 4-under and a share of eighth.

Garcia gets back to seven-under

A fine approach gives him a four-foot putt which he puts away. With Tyrell hatton and Graeme McDowell both bogeying, he is now two clear of third place.

Leishman misses par putt

A similar length putt for Herbert but he leaves his just to the right of the hole. He then misses the next as well so moves down to five-under. Herbert is now three up.

After going into a bunker he left himself a 15 footer to save par, but he puts it away.

Garcia drops back to 6-under

His 12-foot par putt stops agonisingly short of the hole.

Detry has two early birdies

Two in the first three holes for the Belgian, with a par on the par-five sixth in-between.

Herbert misses eagle putt

He made a three on the par-five second yesterday and after a fantastic fairway wood had a chance to do so again, but his putt stayed just right of the hole. It does put himself two clear of Garcia - and Leishman, who also birdied the second.

After escaping with a par on the first, he makes a four on the second hole and is now just one behind Herbert.

Two boys in two for Bryson!

Yesterday it was two in three. Today he has started even worse, as he misses another makeable putt to take a five on the par-four fourth.

McDowell begins with a birdie

A fine second shot at the first leaves himself a six-foot putt which he slots away to join those on six-under. Garcia got up and down for a par.

Bryson bogeys his first again

This time he starts on the 11th but it is the same result as yesterday. He slides a 10-foot par putt wide of the mark.

Garcia lands his second on the green...

But it runs off and into thick grass nearby. No gimme to get his par from there.
