Ian Machado Garry loses for first time as Shavkat Rakhmanov inflicts loss at UFC 310, Alexandre Pantoja retains title

Ian Machado Garry UFC record now reads 15-1-0 after he lost to Shavkat Rakhmonov at UFC 310. The fight went the distance between the two hitherto undefeated fighters but Rakhmonov won 48-47 on all three judges’ scorecards. The win means Rakhmonov moves to a record of 19-0. Elsewhere on the card Alexandre Pantoja defeated Kai Asakura by submission to retain his flyweight title.

Ian Machado Garry suffered the first defeat of his UFC career, losing a narrow points decision to Shavkat Rakhmanov at UFC 310 in Las Vegas.
The Kazakh fighter, whose record moves to 19-0, had never previously gone the distance as he failed to finish his opponent for the first time, but won on all three judges’ scorecards 48-47.
Irishman Machado Garry came out of the bout with credit though, as needing a stoppage in the last round, he locked in a choke hold which looked like it might force a submission before Rakhmanov broke out of it.
The first two rounds proved critical as little action took place, with Machado Garry defending takedown attempts, but the Kazakh fighter landing a few right hands was enough to give him an early lead.
In the third, Machado Garry was the busier as his leg kicks kept the fight on his terms, but three takedowns in the penultimate round ensured a two-round gap going into the last.
The result meant that Machado Garry's 15-fight win streak, stretching back to February 2019, was finally ended.
And after handing the 27-year-old his first loss, Rakhmanov has set his sights on UFC welterweight champion Belal Muhammad in 2025 after calling him into the octagon for a face-off.
In the main event, Flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja continued his dominance of the division to see off new challenger 30-year-old Japanese fighter Kai Asakura.
The Brazilian forced the UFC debutant to submit in the second round with a rear-naked choke, which was enough for Pantoja to move to a record of 30-5-0 as he defended his title for a third time.
Pantoja, 34, is now riding a seven-fight win streak, having beaten Brandon Royval twice, Manel Kape, Alex Perez, Brandon Moreno, Steve Erceg and now, adding Asakura to his resume.
