Ramon Taveras has been forced to pull out of his bantamweight bout against Caolan Loughran at UFC 304 in Manchester “due to a serious injury.”
The duo were set to battle it out on the preliminary card for the event taking place on July 27, live on TNT Sports and discovery+. It is yet to be confirmed whether a replacement will be sourced for the 30-year-old.
Taveras confirmed the news in a post on Instagram and wrote: “It’s unfortunate I have to make a post like this but I’m going to trust in God’s plan and make the smart decision to avoid making my situation worse and prolong my return.
“Today I had to pull from my fight next Saturday due to a serious injury. I worked so hard this fight camp and it sucks that it came to this.
“I worked my way out of depression and into getting in the best shape I’ve been in. I stayed disciplined and got myself out of being fat (176) and mentally f*****.
“But I promise to keep this same mentality during my recovery and become the best version of myself through this recovery process. You guys deserve the best version of me and that’s what I will give you guys. Wouldn’t want this midget getting a dub over me cause of an injury.”
Loughran was largely unsympathetic to the American's plight and stated his intention to remain on the card.
He wrote on X: “I text him a few days after the bout was signed saying he would. This game's not for everybody.
"The UFC are the best in the world and they’ll sort it. Been here before, will fight anyone.”
A stacked card in Manchester will be headlined by Brit Leon Edwards, who will put his welterweight title on the line against American Belal Muhammad.
Local lad Tom Aspinall will take part in the co-main event, when he defends his interim heavyweight belt against another American in Curtis Blaydes.
