Maverick Vinales out of Grand Prix Germany with dislocated shoulder and suspected fracture

Tech3 KTM rider Maverick Vinales did well to fight through to the shoot-out stage of qualifying at Grand Prix Germany on Saturday, but suffered a nasty crash as the action intensified. He was the victim of a violent highside on Turn 4 in Saxony, and appeared to have injured his shoulder. He has now been ruled out of the race weekend after a dislocated shoulder was diagnosed.

Maverick Vinales has been ruled out of Grand Prix Germany this weekend after suffering a dislocated shoulder and potentially a fracture in qualifying on Saturday.

The Tech3 KTM rider appeared to have suffered a shoulder injury when a heavy highside - a crash where unwanted backwheel motion tips the bike over - sent him off his bike in Q2, having battled through the wet conditions in Saxony.

He was not the only rider to find conditions tough, with Jack Miller also suffering a crash on the same Turn 4.

Miller was able to return to action shortly after his crash, using his spare bike, and clinched ninth place ahead of Saturday’s Sprint race, shown live in the afternoon on TNT Sports and discovery+.

Vinales was able to walk away from the crash, but he did not race again, and after he was assessed at the track medical centre, he was transferred to a nearby hospital.

MotoGP announced that the Spanish rider was having further checks on his shoulder for more details on the injury.

He was sent to a hospital and doctors were able to put his shoulder back in place, but they also suspected his shoulder had a small fracture as well.

For his Tech3 KTM team, it is another blow to their weekend preparations, with Enea Bastianini already unavailable due to a bout of appendicitis.

Vinales finished the qualifying session in 12th spot before he was sent to hospital for assessment.

World championship leader Marc Marquez secured pole position in qualifying on Saturday after handling the wet conditions better than his rivals.
